Ch. 681Painful Enough to Knock His Soul Out!
Plot points and events
- Lu Ya and Might Guy fight at full strength, wrecking the forest and surrounding ground. Guy praises Lu Ya’s talent; Lu Ya modestly boasts about his older brothers’ abilities, while secretly feeling driven to surpass them.
- Guy asks whether Lu Ya intends to destroy Konoha. Lu Ya explains that he came seeking food and strong opponents, but was attacked by masked Root operatives. Guy realizes the village’s devastation began with Root’s mistake and blames Danzo and Root.
- With no reason to fight to the death, Guy proposes one final attack using his seventh-gate technique, Daytime Tiger. Lu Ya counters with Sun Fire: Bajrang Gun. Their blows collide in a massive shock wave.
- At Mount Myoboku, the Six Paths Sage and Great Toad Sage question Houka about the children’s powers. Houka describes Soul Fire and Haki as innate gifts and says their beast forms come from miraculous fruits, but reveals little else.
- Houka delays confronting the sages, waiting for his true body to arrive and hoping to locate the Six Paths Sage’s hidden Pure Land.
- Both fighters are blasted away by the final clash. Guy spits blood and loses his blue steam; Lu Ya’s fist swells and smokes. His Soul Fire appears above him in his own shape, spinning in pain.
Character developments and interactions
- Lu Ya shows both competitive pride and humility, eager to test himself while insisting his brothers are even more gifted. He is also genuinely bewildered that his visit for food and sparring escalated into a battle over Konoha.
- Might Guy begins as a determined opponent but softens after learning Lu Ya is not hostile to the village. He warns Lu Ya before his final attack and chooses not to use the fatal eighth gate.
- Houka remains cautious and strategic, withholding information and postponing action until his true body can arrive.
- The Six Paths Sage and Great Toad Sage seek to understand the outsiders’ abilities and draw information from Houka, but receive only brief answers.
