Hans felt like he was having a run of bad luck. He'd actually run into a tornado on the road. Tornadoes did occur in New Mexico, but they weren't exactly common.
And the weather had been perfectly clear when they set out. How had a thunderstorm tornado suddenly appeared? Under the circumstances, Hans had wanted to shout for the driver to stop and turn around. Hans was a ruthless, vicious man, but he wasn't stupid. He knew there was no way people could fight a calamity.
Even with a dozen men and a dozen guns, they could empty every magazine without having the slightest effect on the tornado.
Unfortunately, the tornado had appeared too quickly, and Hans's group had been driving too fast. The two had collided almost in an instant.
In the dim light, dust flew everywhere, making it impossible for Hans to see the road ahead. All he could do was try to keep the car pointed in the right direction and make sure it stayed on the road.
Then, all of a sudden, the car lurched as if it had hit something. The driver slammed on the brakes, nearly sending Hans, who was in the passenger seat, smashing his nose against the dashboard.
After angrily beating the driver, Hans noticed that the magnificent tornado had vanished in an instant, as if it had never been there. The sky was clear, and he could even see the brilliant stars overhead. It made no sense at all.
Puzzled, Hans opened the car door and got out to take a look. Behind where the car had stopped, a complicated circular pattern had appeared at some point, apparently made up of many runes he couldn't understand.
