A Monster With Cheats

"You said that a lot of the people living in these sewers have gone missing?" Luo Xia asked.

"Yes. As far as I know, about five people have gone missing," Skye replied.

Daisy added scornfully, "They were all scumbags who robbed people, raped them, and sold drugs."

Luo Xia really wanted to point out that a thief like her wasn't much more respectable than they were. But after thinking it over, he decided there was no point arguing with a poor girl living in the sewers and crushing what little self-respect she had.

The rumbling grew louder and closer. According to the camera feed, the monster seemed to be charging straight toward Luo Xia.

Luo Xia drew his pistol from his waist. The movement startled both girls.

"Don't panic. Stay right here, and no matter what you hear, don't come out," Luo Xia ordered.

After warning the two girls, Luo Xia slowly left their den and headed toward the source of the noise. Once he was out of their sight, he slipped the Sensor Gloves back onto his hands and modified the Colt he was holding into a Pulse Pistol.

He had no idea what kind of monster he was facing, so the AllSpark's high-tech gear made him feel safer.

The Tactical Goggles gave Luo Xia perfect night vision and detailed distance readings for the surrounding area. So when the monster appeared in front of him, he wasn't caught by surprise.

He had already spotted it with his X-ray vision before it emerged from around the corner.

It looked like a gigantic lizard, though it wore a white coat that made it look rather out of place.

The moment the monster appeared, Luo Xia unhesitatingly pulled the trigger of his Pulse Pistol.

Luo Xia wasn't in the habit of chatting with inhuman monsters about life or trying to bring out whatever humanity they had left. That was the job of a Professor with cheats. After all, the man could immobilize his opponents and use his abilities to read their minds.

Luo Xia couldn't do that, and he had no intention of trying to imitate it. In his previous life, he'd been best at shooting people in the head. This time he was facing a giant lizard, but its head was even bigger and easier to hit.

A stream of pale blue energy burst from the Pulse Pistol and hit the giant lizard squarely in the head.

But the monster was terrifyingly tough. The Pulse Energy Blasts, each roughly as powerful as a grenade, failed to blow him to pieces in an instant. After the first shot tore a huge wound in his head, he quickly raised his scaly arms to shield himself.

The monster's lightning-fast reflexes saved his life. By the time Luo Xia had emptied the magazine, all he'd managed to do was shatter one arm, badly injure the other, and blast a huge hole in the monster's head.

Luo Xia also keenly noticed that the monster's wounds were healing at an incredible speed. The shattered arm was already regenerating rapidly. By the time the Pulse Pistol finished charging again, most of the monster's injuries had healed.

Luo Xia wasn't about to go easy on him. He raised the Pulse Pistol and opened fire again.

This time, however, the lizard monster sprang up and leaped onto the ceiling of the sewer. Its claws dug into the concrete, and it began crawling along the ceiling straight toward Luo Xia.

It wasn't a very wise move. The reloaded Pulse Pistol opened fire again, riddling the sewer ceiling with craters.

The monster grabbed at the fractured wall, but only tore away a handful of rubble before plopping down to the ground.

"That's why I've never understood what monsters in movies get out of crawling on walls. They're not even as fast as when they run on the ground," Luo Xia said as he kept firing at the monster.

The constant explosions made the entire sewer rumble. Dust and stone powder filled the surrounding space.

After emptying the magazine again, the Tactical Goggles showed that the monster was lying on the ground, seemingly lifeless. But Luo Xia had no intention of stopping. He recharged the pistol and kept firing at the monster's "corpse." Judging by his expression, he wouldn't stop until he'd turned the monster into a pile of mush—or vaporized him outright.

Luo Xia was a transmigrator, after all. Countless predecessors had fallen for the fake-death counterattack trick. How could he make the same mistake?

Besides, the place was reinforced concrete from top to bottom. It could probably withstand a nuclear blast, so the Pulse Pistol's explosions wouldn't be enough to bring it down.

Of course, if this guy could survive being reduced to a single cell and come back for revenge like Deadpool, Luo Xia would just have to accept his bad luck. Losing to someone with cheats wasn't shameful.

The monster had indeed been faking his death. But he probably hadn't expected Luo Xia to keep shooting him like this. He let out a roar, then fled while tanking the Pulse Energy Blasts.

"So you're that tough? Were you made in the Soviet Union or something?" Luo Xia muttered.

Three magazines' worth of Pulse Energy Blasts would have reduced a tank to scrap metal. How could this monster still run so fast?

Luo Xia was about to chase after him when he noticed the two girls had come out to watch.

"Didn't I tell you not to come out?" Luo Xia said to them.

"We... What was that just now?" Skye changed the subject.

"Nothing. Just a rather large gecko," Luo Xia explained.

Skye and Daisy looked at the sewer, which seemed to have been hit by a barrage of rockets, and thought, Yeah, right.

"All right, this place isn't safe. I suggest you leave as soon as possible," Luo Xia warned them before chasing after the spot where the Lizard had disappeared.

A monster this dangerous had to be eliminated, or one might suddenly leap out of a manhole while he was walking down the street. He couldn't guarantee he'd react in time.

Fortunately, Luo Xia's barrage had badly wounded the monster. Its reddish-green blood was splattered everywhere, making it easy to track.

He followed the trail for a couple of hundred meters, winding through the complex sewer system several times before the surroundings changed.

The foul smell of the sewer grew even stronger. If the section where Skye and Daisy lived had long been abandoned and unused, this part was still in operation.

The slimy wastewater on the ground felt awful underfoot, but Luo Xia continued tracking without changing expression. He ran until he reached a place with absolutely no light.

The trail of blood ended there. Luo Xia strongly suspected that the monster's wounds had healed.

Though he couldn't see his hand in front of his face, the Tactical Goggles let him see everything clearly. There was no sign of the monster in the space, which was about fifty square meters, but there were dozens of strange green points of light.

No, they weren't green lights. They were the eyes of a whole swarm of strange creatures!
