Skye and Jiaying walked back side by side from beyond the woods. Judging by their expressions, their talk seemed to have gone well.
Before Gordon could ask, Jiaying spoke first. "Take Mr. Luo Xia somewhere he can stay. He's our guest, too."
"But he's not one of us. He shouldn't be here," Gordon protested.
"But we don't have the power to drive him away, do we?" Jiaying had a clear-eyed understanding of the situation and the difference in strength between them.
Luo Xia made no attempt to be modest about it. He was also interested in the Inhumans' transformation ceremony and curious about what powers Skye would gain. As for Skye, she hoped Luo Xia would stay by her side. After all, this place was utterly unfamiliar to her.
Perhaps because their leader, Jiaying, was Chinese, the Inhumans' settlement featured quite a few Chinese architectural touches. The guest room where Luo Xia was staying was a fine example of carved beams and painted rafters. Even the door knocker was shaped like a brass lion, giving him a surprisingly comfortable feeling.
But after he settled into the guest room, several days passed. Aside from someone bringing him food and drink at regular intervals, nobody came to see him. Skye did visit a few times, though, and from the look of her, she seemed to have fully accepted her mother.
From what Skye told him, Jiaying doted on the daughter she had only just reunited with, as if she truly wanted to make up for lost time. Skye was also enjoying this hard-won motherly affection. After all, compared with her father, who flew into a rage at the drop of a hat, Jiaying fulfilled all her fantasies of what a mother should be.
Seeing the smile on Skye's face, Luo Xia couldn't
