Background / History
Zhou Yi introduced herself to Freshman Class One by declaring that “trash” was not worth cultivating and that she would expel any student she considered unqualified. She immediately targeted Jiang Yang over his altercation with Xu Sanshi, claiming her authority as homeroom teacher gave her the right to remove him from the academy. When Wang Dong defended him, Zhou Yi also threatened to expel her. 8
Her confrontation with Jiang Yang escalated into an open battle. Zhou Yi pursued him with increasingly powerful soul skills, eventually using her sixth soul skill and a boosted Red Dragon Impact Cannon despite student fears that she intended to kill him. Jiang Yang defeated her with Hundred-Step Flying Sword; the strike and its mental intimidation effect left her psychologically broken and repeatedly begging not to be killed. 9 10 11 12
The Sea God Pavilion considered expelling Zhou Yi for attempting to kill a student and for her longstanding teaching problems. Qian Duoduo argued that she should be given a chance, and the final decision imposed punishment rather than immediate expulsion. Mu Jin replaced her as Freshman Class One’s homeroom teacher. 14
Zhou Yi later returned as Freshman Class Nine’s teacher. After Jiang Yang’s victory over Dai Huabin’s team, she publicly praised him in an apparent attempt to rehabilitate her image; Mu Jin exposed her previous attempt to expel him, prompting students and teachers to ridicule her. Her students voiced grievances over her methods, including repeated iron-vest running without restorative support, and many called to transfer into Class One. 28 32 33
Fan Yu, Qian Duoduo, and Xian Lin’er ultimately helped prevent her removal from Shrek after Fan Yu pledged to teach Jiang Yang all of his soul-tool knowledge. 33
Appearance
Zhou Yi first appears as an older woman. Her Martial Soul manifests as a large red dragon phantom, and she wears a fitted teacher’s uniform during her battle with Jiang Yang. 8 10
- Her soul-ring configuration is two yellow, two purple, and two black rings. 8
- Jiang Yang’s Demon-Judging Sword causes her appearance to revert to a younger form during their battle. 10
- She wears glasses and is shown adjusting them when attempting to praise Jiang Yang after his later victory. 32
Personality
Zhou Yi is authoritarian and openly contemptuous of students she considers weak. She treats expulsion as a routine teaching tool, defining her class as a place only for those she judges worthy. 8 32
She is intensely concerned with maintaining authority and face. Jiang Yang’s refusal to submit, followed by Wang Dong’s intervention, drives her from intimidation into increasingly dangerous attacks. Her rage worsens after Jiang Yang leaves her disheveled and exposes her younger appearance before the students. 8 9 10
After her defeat, Zhou Yi displays opportunism rather than accountability: she tries to attach herself to Jiang Yang’s success by praising him publicly, hoping the recognition of his abnormal strength will lessen the humiliation of her own loss. 32
