Chapter 50: Three Experiments (Part One)
By the time Xiang Kun returned to his city, it was already eight thirty at night. The moment he opened his apartment door, a foul stench hit him in the face.
He was not surprised. There were still three rabbits in a cage in the kitchen, and no one had cleaned up their droppings for nearly five days. Of course it stank.
Xiang Kun first opened the kitchen door and windows to air the place out, then checked on the meat rabbits in the cage.
Before leaving, he had stuffed every vegetable leaf from the refrigerator into and around the cage, and filled the sink with water.
As for how many days those leaves would last, or when he would return, he naturally had neither the time nor energy to consider such things. He was raising food, not pets.
He had assumed the meat rabbits would be done for, but after checking, he found that although all three looked listless and on the verge of death, they were still stubbornly hanging on.
Xiang Kun hesitated over whether to slaughter all three rabbits and drink their blood right away, but after thinking it over, he decided to stick to his usual schedule and rhythm.
Besides, he planned to run some experiments, and some of the things he needed to prepare in advance were not ready yet.
So Xiang Kun cleaned the rabbits' cage, then rummaged through the refrigerator and found an apple left behind by the previous tenant, one that had been sitting there for who knew how long. He sliced it thinly and placed the pieces in their feeding trough.
At this hour, he naturally was not going to make a special trip out to buy food for the rabbits.
