The new book, I Actually Only Want to Be a Minor Lord, is out.
It tells the story of an ordinary young man from the 21st century who just wanted to coast through life. After dying of a brain hemorrhage, he transmigrated into another world and became a noble lord.
The female lead is a regressor from another world. She appears relatively late, around chapters 26–27, and returns with her memories to the moment the male lead transmigrates, hoping to change the course of history.
In this world, nobles gained the right to rule through powerful bloodline gifts, magic, and spiritual energy cultivation. To keep their descendants from growing weaker and being displaced by powerful commoners, they invented a system of soul-subordination contracts.
Territory residents with cultivation talent all sign soul-subordination contracts with their noble lords, becoming contracted servants. A lord can decide whether a servant lives or dies with a single thought. Contracted servants are much like slaves: they must serve their lord for generations. If a lord dies an unnatural death, all their contracted servants die with them. Normally, before dying, a lord transfers all their soul contracts to their heir through their will.
The story features magic and technology alongside East Asian-looking characters, East Asian-style names, and other Chinese naming conventions, so traditional fantasy readers might not enjoy it as much.
