This Wish Machine was like a vast treasury, while Wish Granters were doors opened into that treasury.

The treasury stored infinite power, treasure, and knowledge.

But frail and feeble Wish Granters could only slowly carry out what they were able to move through that door, taking an insignificant portion of the treasures within.

Knowledge needed information to be recorded, and information possessed energy.

Knowledge was power. This power referred to physical power; infinite knowledge meant infinite information and energy.

A supercomputer with a mass equal to Earth's, calculating nonstop since the birth of Earth, could process at most 2.56 × 10^92 bits of data.

This number was called Bremermann's Limit.

Computation exceeding this amount of information was impossible even in theory.

For Human Civilization trapped on Earth, problems that exceeded this computational limit had no solution.

Most problems in the world had no simple, precise algorithms. Their complexity was too high.

The algorithmic complexity of these problems was equal to the problems themselves. The simplest and only method was to enumerate them one by one through brute force; there was no way to encode or compress them.
