After Halloween came November, and the cold weather made the young wizards even more reluctant to get out of bed.
At eight in the morning, Kyle changed into a thick robe and yawned his way into the Great Hall for breakfast.
When the owls flocked into the Great Hall as usual, Cedric's long-awaited broom finally arrived. Just as he had expected, it was a Nimbus 1700.
"That's brilliant, Cedric, absolutely brilliant." An older Hufflepuff player excitedly slapped Cedric on the shoulder. "You're our Seeker. With this Nimbus 1700, the gap between us and Slytherin will be much smaller.
"I've seen their Seeker in action. Honestly, he's not much better than a troll that can ride a broomstick."
Incidentally, Hufflepuff's first Quidditch match was against Slytherin.
They had originally been worried that the gap in equipment would be too great, but then this piece of good news suddenly arrived.
A Nimbus 1700 alone was not enough to send their morale soaring, but combined with Cedric as their Seeker, it was a different story.
In practice matches, Cedric's fastest catch of the Golden Snitch had taken only five minutes. He had been just seconds away from breaking Hogwarts's record for the fastest Seeker.
With a top-tier broom and a genius Seeker, the Hufflepuff players had no idea how they could possibly lose.
Could Slytherin really get a hundred and fifty points ahead of them within five minutes?
What a joke.
Kyle was happy as well. Although he had not taken part, it would still be wonderful if his House could bring home a Quidditch Cup.
He turned to look at Cedric's brand-new Nimbus until a sharp pain pricked his finger. Only then did he notice an owl hovering in front of him as well.
"Sorry, little guy. I didn't notice you."
