Kyle knocked on the door, and Bones's voice came from inside.
"Come in."
Compared to when Fudge had been there, the Minister's office had become much simpler. The lavish, exquisitely crafted mountain ash desk was gone, replaced by a very ordinary one.
Its material and design were the same as those used in the other offices; the only difference was that it was much larger.
There was no helping it. If the desk were any smaller, it might not have been able to hold all the mountains of documents and files piled on it.
Hearing the footsteps, Bones looked up instinctively.
"Kyle? I never expected it to be you," she said. "What, are you ready to come back to work?"
"Maybe after a while," Kyle said. "I came this time because of this."
As he spoke, he placed a button, a Galleon, and a Sickle on the desk.
"What are these?"
"Communication devices suitable for Aurors," Kyle said.
"You mentioning it reminds me—Scrimgeour came to see me about this last week." Bones rubbed her temples. "There have been too many things going on lately. But your communication parchment has already gone into use, and the feedback from the Ministry has been very positive."
"That's good."
"Then why are there three?" Bones looked at the items on the desk. "The button and Galleon look much more convenient than parchment. Am I supposed to pick one?"
"No, all three are included." Kyle pointed at the Galleon and Sickle. "Like the parchment, these can be used to speak through the Sickle to whoever is holding the Galleon, as long as the correct passphrase is spoken.
