Luna's Intuition

Snape's sudden visit had served as a warning to Kyle. He had no idea whom Dumbledore had met before leaving, or what they had discussed.

Snape might come looking for him today, and Horace Slughorn might come looking for him tomorrow over something else, but he could not guarantee that he would be able to bluff his way through every time.

Or rather, it was these unknown situations that posed the greatest test.

Kyle's response was simple... run away.

After Snape left the Headmaster's Office, Kyle had the former headmasters' portraits summon Professor McGonagall, who had just finished teaching, and told her about it.

"You mean Severus came to see you? And said things you knew nothing about?" Professor McGonagall frowned, looking just as surprised.

"He only left a moment ago," Kyle said. "Honestly, I wasn't this nervous even during my N.E.W.T. exams."

"Dumbledore rarely mentioned Severus to us. I'm afraid I can't help you with that." After thinking for a moment, Professor McGonagall said, "Strange. Why didn't he mention it in his letter?"

"That's the heart of the problem." Kyle sighed. "I don't know how many situations like this there might be. If it happens too often, I'll definitely be exposed."

"So what do you have in mind?"

"I can't keep staying here." Kyle took a deep breath. "As long as they can't find Dumbledore, they won't have a chance to expose me."

"No." Professor McGonagall shook her head without hesitation, rejecting Kyle's suggestion.

"I don't think it would make much difference, Professor," Kyle said. "Professor Dumbledore wasn't at school all that often before, was he? Everyone must be used to it by now. Besides, I already showed myself at the start-of-term feast. It should be fine if I leave the school for a while."
