"How did this happen?"
Seeing Dumbledore's bewildered expression, Kyle rubbed his forehead, unsure where to begin.
He had come to save someone, yet they had barely met, exchanged no words, and already gotten into a fight.
Fortunately, although Dumbledore had lost part of his memory, he was still fairly clear-headed. Once he realized something was wrong, he temporarily abandoned the idea of continuing to erase Kyle's memories.
It had to be said, Dumbledore's temper at this age was truly explosive. At the slightest disagreement, he would whip out his wand. If he had not been weakened and held back by his own concerns, the consequences would have been far more troublesome than they were now.
Kyle conjured himself a chair as well, sat opposite Dumbledore, and asked, "Professor, do you really not remember anything?"
"I don't." Dumbledore shook his head.
"Then haven't you ever found it suspicious?" Kyle continued. "You think you're a Transfiguration professor, but that should have been when you were middle-aged, or perhaps even earlier. You clearly don't look like you're that age now."
"Because this is not my first time coming here," Dumbledore explained. "I can't remember the exact number of times, but I know I've come back many times. Added together, that is not a short amount of time."
Kyle sighed helplessly.
By Dumbledore's reasoning, he knew his appearance did not match the age in his memories, but he did not think there was anything wrong with that. He merely assumed it was normal aging from repeatedly returning to the past.
"But now, it seems things are completely different from what I thought." Dumbledore looked at Kyle. "Could you please tell me the truth?"
"No problem, but it's complicated to explain. Let me think about where to start..." Kyle rubbed his forehead.
