Although he had experienced it once before, Kyle still felt a wave of discomfort when the Time-Turner began to operate.
It was as though every sound had vanished. All he could hear was a buzzing in his ears, while everything before his eyes had become a blur of different colors. He could barely make out Dumbledore beside him and the Time-Turner clenched tightly in his hand.
As the hands turned, the red glow clinging to it grew fainter and fainter, indicating that the Philosopher's Stone's magic was being rapidly depleted.
And perhaps because there was one more person this time, the rate of consumption was far faster than when Kyle had come here.
Kyle did not know whether the Philosopher's Stone would be completely drained before they returned to the correct time, nor did he know what would happen if that truly occurred.
Perhaps they would randomly appear in some year, or perhaps they would return to a hundred years ago once more. Either outcome was something Kyle did not want to see.
After an unknown amount of time, everything around them gradually began to come into focus.
Kyle could clearly see houses rising from the ground at incredible speed, completed in the blink of an eye. He could also see tiny saplings growing into towering trees at an unimaginable pace.
Everything around them seemed to be moving ten times faster than normal, perhaps even more.
Kyle knew that their journey through time was nearly over.
At last, the Philosopher's Stone inside the Time-Turner completely dimmed. Its red glow vanished, and everything around them returned to its normal speed.
The buzzing in his ears was replaced by a noisy song. He could not make out the tune; every variation relied on shifts in pitch, without a shred of technique—only emotion.
