After all this effort, Kyle's shop in Diagon Alley had basically finished renovations. Several shelves stood in the most conspicuous spots, and a House-elf was placing the goods piled on the floor onto them one by one.
"Thanks for your hard work, Dobby." Kyle walked in from outside and handed him an ice cream piled with nuts and cookie crumbs. "You still came to help me sort the merchandise during your holiday."
"Dobby does not think it is hard work at all." The House-elf excitedly accepted the ice cream. "Dobby only wanted holidays, but Dobby would much rather come help sir."
Even though Dobby had actively asked for holidays and wages, making him an oddity among House-elves, it was more like a formality. Deep down, he still retained the same traits as other House-elves.
For instance, he could never stay idle.
When he heard that Kyle needed someone to stock the shelves, Dobby, who had similar experience, came over immediately, completely unconcerned that today was his one day off each week.
"I was wondering why I kept seeing you in Diagon Alley lately. I never expected you to have opened a shop here." A somewhat surprised voice came from outside the door.
Kyle turned around and realized that the visitor was Florin Fortescue, the owner of the ice cream shop next door. He had just bought something from the man's shop.
They had met during the previous Death Eater attack on Diagon Alley. At the time, Mr. Fortescue had been one of their targets, but Kyle had saved him.
"Welcome, Mr. Fortescue." Kyle greeted him warmly.
"I'm just having a look around," Fortescue said. "This shop has been vacant for at least thirty years. It's been shut ever since I opened mine, and I never expected it to belong to
