The next instant, a shadow shot out of the darkness at tremendous speed.

Chen Han was ready for it. He swung a leg out to meet it and kicked it flying.

The shadow let out a miserable shriek and slammed heavily into the ground.

Chen Han took a closer look. It was a spider half a man's height, bloodred from head to toe, with a hideous mouthpart covered in dozens of eyes, large and small.

Chen Han felt a wave of revulsion.

He muttered to himself, "So this must be the Red Spider behind Black Lion City's disaster."

Red Spiders usually traveled in swarms, so Chen Han naturally didn't dare waste time. He snapped off a small tree branch, gripped it by the base, and stripped it from end to end, turning it into a crude spear.

The Red Spider wasn't very intelligent. It didn't know what Chen Han was up to, and tilted its head as it warily sized him up.

But in the next instant, Chen Han kicked a pebble on the ground toward it. The Red Spider reacted quickly and leaped aside.

After dodging the incoming pebble, the Red Spider's eight legs had yet to touch the ground when the spear appeared right before its eyes.
