"Cao Clan Genealogy?"
On the road, Aaron rode the donkey backward and casually flipped open the genealogy he had seized.
It recorded not only the Cao Clan's legitimate and concubine-born lines of inheritance and their changes over time... but also accounts of certain major events.
Aaron skipped over a great deal of useless information and turned straight to fifty years ago.
"...In the eleventh month, Cao Yulin encountered an immortal at Great Marsh Lake. The immortal said that the 'Crimson Blood Carp King' was a spirit fish and beneficial even to cultivators... So the entire clan mobilized its strength, obtained the fish, and presented it to him. The immortal was greatly pleased and bestowed three spirit talismans, saying that no one in my Cao Family possessed the aptitude for cultivation and could not seek immortality... What a pity!"
"So the Crimson Blood Carp King is useful to cultivators too?"
Aaron blinked, suddenly recalling that more than thirty years ago, a Crimson Blood Carp King had also appeared in Great Marsh Lake.
Yet it had ultimately vanished without explanation. It seemed that none of the factions had managed to obtain it.
"Looking at it now... could that Carp King have been snatched away directly by some passing cultivator? Was I too cautious, and thus lost a possible immortal opportunity?"
But honestly, such an immortal opportunity came with danger as well, and there was no way to know the cultivator's character.
So Aaron did not find it regrettable. If he had to do it again, he would still make the same choice.
He continued leafing through the Cao Family genealogy and found some more records.
For example, two of those three spirit talismans had later been used up in Song Shentong's death and in a calamity that befell the Cao Family afterward...
