Appearance
Snake-People combine human and serpentine features. An ordinary Demon-Human is described as having a human head and a beast's body, though members of the Snake-Person Race can vary in appearance 41.
- Green scales may be visible on the face or hands, even when a Snake-Person otherwise looks human 41 43 49.
- Bai Qingzhi's tail had transformed into human legs, which Chen Jingping identified as a sign of an unusually precious bloodline 41.
- Some can use snake skin to alter their appearance and impersonate humans 51.
Abilities & Traits
Physique and senses
Snake-People are generally stronger in physique than human martial artists at comparable levels 66 67.
- They are sensitive to changes in their surroundings and can detect human body heat, making close-range concealment difficult 75 77.
- Many fear sunlight, though it causes discomfort rather than preventing them from moving during the day 47.
- Realgar drives back many Snake-People; those with rich bloodlines may resist it 47 81 82.
- The point at the back of the neck, called the “seven inches,” is a fatal weakness for many of them 47 51.
Bloodline talents and molting
Bai Qingzhi says the Snake-Person Race has innate talents rather than its own martial arts 45.
- Chen Jingping reports that Snake-People shed their skin during the full moon and rise a tier afterward; the shedding leaves an ordinary Snake-Person vulnerable to a blood pact 41 79.
- A potent bloodline can grant inherited secret arts. Bai Qingzhi turns her molted skin into a clone, but this is not established as an ability shared by all Snake-People 69 70.
- Some possess natural snake claws or venom 77 87 122.
History
A captured Snake-Person is displayed at a Sea Whale Gang auction. A Snake-Person disguised as a green-shirted bidder helps free her, while other disguised members attack the attendees 41 43. Snake-People subsequently infiltrate Black Stone County: one poses as a street vendor and kills Li Futian, while another impersonates Shen Qingxue to approach Zhou Yun 49 50 51.
After signs of a wider threat emerge, the Three Halls Martial Tournament is changed into a seven-day hunt in the Black Profound Mountain Range. Competitors submit Snake-People's left ears as proof of kills 64 66 72. During a raid on a Snake-Person nest, its commander organizes its kin against the attackers and summons a bat swarm. Zhou Yun kills the commander, after which the Snake-Person force collapses 81 83 87.
The race later splits over Saintess Bai Qingzhi's Equality Contract with Zhou Yun. Some members consider her unfit to lead because she contracted with a human; others support her because her bloodline has grown purer. The dispute leads to infighting, and members opposed to her attack Bai Qingzhi and Zhou Yun 122 123.
