History
The Northern Di invade the Great Zhou frontier and threaten North-Rejecting City from the opening of the conflict. Their troops repeatedly assault its walls, using scaling ladders, siege towers, and other siege equipment while exploiting the defenders' exhausted Death Squad Camp as a target of attrition 1 4 5.
After early assaults and harassment operations, Di forces bypass North-Rejecting City to raid nearby villages. A force of roughly three hundred soldiers destroys West River Village and retreats into the Old Forest, where it is pursued by the Third Battalion 13 14. Another Di detachment lures the battalion into a valley ambush; its leader Chimu, an Inner Strength Realm warrior of the Black Wolf Tribe, is killed by Zhou Kui 15.
The campaign escalates from a vanguard of at least five thousand soldiers to a regular army of at least thirty thousand, equipped with battering rams, catapults, ballistae, siege towers, and scaling ladders 23 28. Later, following Yanmen Pass's fall, an army of at least fifty thousand Di soldiers advances on North-Rejecting City with more than a dozen Pulse-Opening Realm experts and five Origin-Opening Realm experts 43 44.
After North-Rejecting City falls, Di search parties scour the surrounding forest for surviving Zhou soldiers. These squads include Body Forging and Inner Strength Realm fighters, while wounded Pulse-Opening Realm combatants are also encountered in the aftermath 45 46 47 50.
Military Organization
| Unit / Rank | Documented standards or examples |
|---|---|
| Regular soldiers | Common soldiers range through the Body Forging Realm; elite Di troops begin at Body Forging Seventh Layer or above 22. |
| Squad leaders / decurions | Di squad leaders are generally at least Body Forging Ninth Layer; decurions may also possess Inner Strength Realm cultivation 22 37. |
| Centurions | Di centurions are Inner Strength Realm combatants 22 23. |
| Pulse-Opening Realm experts | The Di deploy at least thirteen known Pulse-Opening Realm experts during the open-field campaign around North-Rejecting City 36. |
| Origin-Opening Realm experts | Five Origin-Opening Realm experts accompany the final fifty-thousand-strong force advancing on North-Rejecting City 43. |
| Kaiyuan Realm command | Huyan Lie is identified as a late-stage Kaiyuan Realm Di Army Commander 31. |
Military Methods
- Siege warfare — The Di use massed infantry assaults supported by scaling ladders, siege towers, battering rams, catapults, ballistae, and volleys of arrows 10 23 28.
- Attrition tactics — Rather than always attempting an immediate breach, Di forces conduct repeated small-scale attacks to exhaust North-Rejecting City's defenders 5 40.
- Raids and ambushes — Detachments bypass the city to massacre villages, loot supplies, and draw pursuing Zhou troops into terrain favorable for ambushes 13 15.
- Organized field formations — In open battle, Di troops advance in layered formations of shield-bearers, spearmen, and axemen rather than disorganized charges 37.
- Post-battle search operations — Following the fall of North-Rejecting City, squads systematically comb the forest for surviving Great Zhou soldiers 46 49.
