Inside the cockpit, a Marine sergeant embellished his account of everything that had happened on deck to Tsugikuni Yoriichi. He also gave an embellished retelling of what happened after Kuzan took the rescued girl back to his room.
By the end of it, he had practically labeled Kuzan a "beast."
Yoriichi sat in his chair, listening with great interest as his subordinate condemned Kuzan. From time to time, he even chimed in, and between the two of them, Kuzan was no longer treated as human.

"I found a way to get to Winter Crow Island!"
As he spoke, Kuzan pulled an irregular little scrap of paper from his pocket and handed it to Yoriichi. Yoriichi placed it in his palm, and the irregular scrap shifted slightly westward.
