The sun sank in the west.
Soon, the sky was shrouded in dusk, and a sea of stars unfolded before their eyes.
Kuzan stood by the rail, gazing up at the starry sky overhead, utterly unaware of time passing.
After a long, long while, the Marines on deck gradually returned to their cabins to rest, leaving only five or six night-watch Marines at the lookout and on deck.
All of them noticed Kuzan standing by the rail for who knew how many hours, but not one of them went to disturb him.
"Sure enough, I still can't just stand by and watch something like this happen right in front of me!"
As he spoke, Kuzan's body turned into icy mist and vanished from the deck.
The night deepened.
A black curtain enveloped the entire coast.
Tonight seemed unusually cold. The Marines on watch could clearly feel winter's chill penetrating their heavy Marine coats and seeping into their bodies.
The few of them gathered together and discussed it, then slipped into the cabin to put on a few more layers before returning to their posts.
As for why they had to go together? Perhaps it was the same reason schoolboys and schoolgirls liked going to the restroom in groups.
Not long after the watch Marines left the deck, Kuzan suddenly appeared at the cabin door. He placed a hand on the handle, freezing the cabin door shut with his power.
From beneath the green warship docked in the harbor, an ice staircase extended all the way to the pier.
Bang—
With a soft sound, a hole suddenly opened in the warship's lower hold for no apparent reason. The hole led directly into the warship's prison.
"Hm?!"
"What's going on?!"
"Did someone come to rescue us?!"
"Quick! Run!"
