Chapter Summaries

After three years at Nuoding Academy, Lu Yi prepared to leave for a four-thousand-five-hundred-year Soul Ring before seeking admission to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Flender renewed his invitation to Shrek Academy, but Lu Yi declined because Wang Shu would need to attend with him.

• Tang San tried to persuade Lu Yi to choose a three-thousand-year Soul Ring, but Lu Yi insisted he could endure the four-thousand-five-hundred-year one.
• Master supported Lu Yi's decision, while Xiao Wu celebrated his departure and Tang San apologized for her teasing.
• Lu Yi said goodbye to Master and Tang San and left Nuoding Academy with Flender and Wang Shu to hunt for Soul Rings.
• Flender invited Lu Yi to Shrek Academy again, and Lu Yi declined because Wang Shu might not pass its entrance test.

Lu Yi learned that Flender had sold his Thousand-Year Whale Rubber far too early, then traveled with Flender and Wang Shu to Star Dou Great Forest to hunt Soul Rings. Flender entered a sulfurous canyon to capture a Golden Armored Flame Dragon while Lu Yi and Wang Shu waited outside, warned to avoid a thirty-thousand-year Fire Tiger.

• Lu Yi questioned Flender about why Shrek Academy remained in a village and discovered that Flender had sold his Whale Rubber for only one hundred Gold Soul Coins per tael.
• Lu Yi and Flender discussed their Soul Beast hunt, and they agreed to seek Wang Shu's Soul Ring before Lu Yi's because the Golden Armored Flame Dragon was closer.
• Flender led Lu Yi and Wang Shu through Star Dou Great Forest to a canyon near volcanic terrain.
• Flender warned Lu Yi and Wang Shu to wait outside because a thirty-thousand-year Fire Tiger lived in the canyon, then leaped inside to capture the Golden Armored Flame Dragon.

After Wang Shu absorbed his second Soul Ring, he and Lu Yi encountered Dugu Bo while crossing a swamp. Lu Yi survived Dugu Bo’s thirty-second poison test with a realgar-infused water shield, but Dugu Bo then declared that he must die.

• Wang Shu killed the Golden Armored Flame Dragon and absorbed its purple Soul Ring while Lu Yi guarded him.
• Lu Yi and Wang Shu crossed the swamp to reach the lake, where Magikarp crushed a thousand-year Ink-Pattern Ring-Tailed Snake that Dugu Bo had chosen for Dugu Yan.
• Dugu Bo accused Lu Yi of stealing his prey, but Dugu Yan asked him to spare Lu Yi and Wang Shu.

Lu Yi threatened Dugu Bo with knowledge of Dugu Yan’s fatal poison and persuaded him to take them to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye. Dugu Bo flew Lu Yi, Wang Shu, and Dugu Yan there, leaving Lu Yi to endure the journey without Soul Power.

• Lu Yi told Dugu Bo that Dugu Yan’s inherited poison would kill her, and Dugu Yan stopped her grandfather from killing him.
• Dugu Bo admitted Dugu Yan was poisoned and said she would not live past thirty; Lu Yi warned that cultivating could make her die at Rank 40.
• Lu Yi revealed that Dugu Bo was also poisoned and claimed he could save both him and Dugu Yan if taken to the place that suppressed the poison.
• Lu Yi told Dugu Bo he was only sixty percent confident without that place and that Dugu Yan would have to lose her cultivation, so Dugu Bo agreed to take him there.
• Dugu Bo carried Lu Yi and Wang Shu and flew Dugu Yan toward the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye, sealing Lu Yi’s Soul Power and leaving him exposed to the wind.

Dugu Bo brought Lu Yi and Wang Shu to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye and forced Lu Yi to prove he could cure Dugu Bo’s granddaughter, Yan Yan. After Dugu Bo poisoned him and set a two-hour deadline, Lu Yi consumed the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot and plunged into the spring, leaving Dugu Bo too late to stop him.

• Lu Yi and Wang Shu recovered from flying, and Lu Yi traded defiant insults with Dugu Bo, who threw him against a stone wall.
• Dugu Bo demanded to know whether Lu Yi could cure Yan Yan with the herb garden, and Lu Yi claimed he could also evolve her Martial Soul and remove Dugu Bo’s own poison.

• Dugu Bo watched Lu Yi sink into the spring, failed to retrieve him with Soul Power, and waited on the shore for him to return.
• Lu Yi dreamed that the Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King became dragon souls, entered his body, and fused into a red-and-blue disc.
• Lu Yi woke underwater, decided to swim to the surface, and summoned Magikarp after it sent him increasingly urgent messages.
• Magikarp carried Lu Yi upward, burst out of the spring, and evolved into Gyarados, which bore yellow, blue, and red Soul Rings.
• Dugu Bo flew toward Lu Yi, and Lu Yi ordered Gyarados to use Flamethrower against him.
• Dugu Bo blocked the attack with his Serpent Constellation Heavenly Shield, but the flames kept burning on its jade-green barrier.

Lu Yi unleashed the Ice Fire Dragon King's Soul Skills against Dugu Bo, who endured the attack to prove his sincerity and ask for help saving his granddaughter. Lu Yi agreed to save her in exchange for ownership of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye herb garden.
