Jiangxia, Xiling City. After Huang Zu was persuaded by Pang Tong, he sent a trusted aide toward Xiling City.
This trusted aide was named Huang Du. He was Huang Zu's nephew and one of the outstanding young men of the Huang Clan.
After hearing Huang Zu's instructions, Huang Du entered Xiling City and went straight to see Wen Ping.
His purpose in coming this time was to follow Pang Tong's plan: ostensibly to plead for Huang She, but in truth to contact Huang Zu's former subordinates.
Wen Ping naturally had not expected Huang Zu to receive the news so quickly. After getting word, he met with Huang Du.
"Since Lord Huang retired two years ago, he has not concerned himself with military affairs. How is it that just as I began dealing with Huang She, Lord Huang learned of it?"
He was probing Huang Du's source of information. With the city gates tightly shut, news should have been very difficult to pass out.
Yet Huang Zu, far away in Anlu, had somehow learned of it. There was clearly something unusual about this.
But Huang Du had long been prepared. Seeing Wen Ping question him, he feigned a mournful look, clasped his hands, and bowed.
"We knew nothing of what had happened in the city. I came because Lord Huang has lately been troubled and uneasy."
