Background

Yu Youhan entered the Great Yuan Imperial Palace with the explicit objective of seizing the kingdom’s national fortune. She spent years remaining largely within the deep palace while building an independent power base capable of rivaling the Imperial Empress’s faction. Her intended path to the Great Dao was to seize the throne, receive the mandate of heaven, and thereby obtain Dragon Qi directly. 222 388

Her pursuit of the source is complicated by Chen Mo. Although she initially considered extracting the Dragon Qi he possessed, she refused after learning that forcibly stripping it away could kill him. She instead regarded the Dragon Qi within Chen as equivalent to possessing it herself. 145

Ji Hongxiu later identifies Chen as Yu Youhan’s “price”: because he possesses Yu Youhan’s Dao power, her Dao heart cannot achieve flawless harmony while he exists. This leaves her state of mind unstable whenever she attempts to touch the source. 199

By the end of the conflict surrounding Heaven Capital City, Yu Youhan has abandoned her long-standing claim to the throne in favor of Chen Mo. She is granted marriage to him, becoming the first woman formally entered into the Chen Family register. 562 566 569
