Background
Ling Ningzhi was born from two opposing bloodlines: her father possessed an Innate Dao Physique, while her mother was a person rejected by heaven and unable to cultivate. The conflict nearly killed Ling Ningzhi before birth; her mother died giving birth to her, and her father died in grief two years later. She was subsequently raised by her grandfather, Ling Yishan. 349
Foreseeing that Ling Ningzhi would face heavenly punishment, Ling Yishan used divine abilities to break her Three Calamities and Nine Tribulations in advance, taking their burden upon himself. The act damaged his Dao foundation and greatly shortened his lifespan. 349
As Heavenly Pivot Pavilion's chief disciple, Ling Ningzhi was recognized by its elders as its finest genius since Ji Hongxiu and as the intended successor to the sect-master position. 504
Appearance
Ling Ningzhi usually wears immaculate moon-white Daoist robes and carries an ethereal, distant presence. When appearing publicly as Fairy Qingxuan, her face is often obscured by a mist-like veil. 112
- Moon-white Daoist robes and a whisk are her customary attire. 112 561
- Her calm, otherworldly bearing makes her seem detached from worldly affairs. 112
- Her hair turned white after she reversed her meridians and burned her vital essence to protect Chen Mo, before later recovering. 163 166
Personality
Ling Ningzhi is initially aloof, reserved, and uncompromising. She rejects Zi Lianji's proposal to join forces at Cangyun Mountain, insisting that fortunes should be won through personal ability. 112 Her attachment to Ling Yishan's health is her greatest emotional vulnerability; an illusion exploiting that fear nearly overwhelms her. 114
Though trained in the Heavenly Pivot Pavilion's doctrine of emotional detachment, she is deeply loyal once she accepts someone as important. She is willing to overdraw her life force to protect Chen Mo and states that she fears only “dying without value.” 163 Her relationship with Chen Mo gradually makes her more open, affectionate, jealous, and willing to defy sect expectations. 331 333 448
Abilities & Skills
Daoist Cultivation
Ling Ningzhi possesses an Innate Dao Physique and cultivates one of the Heavenly Pivot Pavilion's supreme Dao arts. Her Primordial Qi is exceptionally pure and solid, making her a highly effective dual-cultivation partner and accelerating her own advancement. 273 334
- Can use divine sense and Daoist calculations to locate nearby treasures. 114
- Her calculations have limits; she cannot easily see through cultivators much stronger than herself. 114
- A trace of Chen Mo's Dao power increased her divine sense by more than half, equivalent to years of ordinary cultivation. 155
- Reaches Dao Integration and the third rank of the Heavenly Human Realm. 504
Lightning Arts
Ling Ningzhi's primary offensive methods are direct, orthodox lightning techniques with overwhelming destructive power. 128 277
- Heavenly Imperial Thunder — Summons a rotating storm vortex and dark-blue lightning; its pressure is compared to that of a Grandmaster-level technique. 128
- Cloud Ascending Steps — A movement technique used alongside her thunder arts in the Heavenly Human Martial Trial. 128
- She relies on decisive, repeated lightning strikes rather than deceptive techniques. 277
Thousand Mechanisms Guide
A secret Heavenly Pivot Pavilion art used to gather, restrain, and guide energy. 159 160
- Can suppress fluctuations from Chen Mo's True Essence if its Dao power is not directly blended into another cultivator's essence. 159 160
- Requires sustained concentration and divided attention, making it difficult to maintain under pressure. 160
- She also uses Mechanism Threads to coordinate movement and navigation with allies. 448
Sacrificial Techniques
When Chen Mo is endangered, Ling Ningzhi is prepared to use techniques that severely damage her own body. 163
- Reversed her meridians and burned her vital essence to force out primordial power and resist Ji Lianxing. 163
- Her overexertion turned her hair white and left internal injuries. 163
- Chen Mo later healed those injuries by using Eroding Light to restore her body to its prior state. 166
Equipment
- Five Elements Escape Talisman — A talisman affixed to her Daoist robes for escape and protection. 163
- Flying vessel — Provides a flying boat for Chen Mo's party during their journey to the Southern Frontier. 355
- Immortal materials — Searches for materials needed to refine a Creation Golden Pill for Ling Yishan, including the Earth Fire Flowing Rosy Cloud Flower, Evergreen Branch, and Golden Sand Marrow. 140 141 475
Relationships
- Chen Mo — Her Dao companion and husband. He first saves her from the Cangyun Mountain illusion while disguised as Daoist Xuanji; their relationship develops from distrust and rivalry into mutual protection and a public Dao bond. 114 166 331 506
- Shen Zhixia — Her closest friend. They travel together, support one another's relationships with Chen Mo, and refer to each other as lifelong good sisters. 112 243 435
- Ji Hongxiu — Her master and the Dao Venerable of Heavenly Pivot Pavilion. Ji Hongxiu initially tries to sever Ling Ningzhi's attachment to Chen Mo, but later joins Ling Ningzhi and Chen Mo in a three-person Dao-binding covenant. 142 433 506
- Ling Yishan — Her grandfather and only living relative. He raised her, bore the burden of her future tribulations, and seeks a Creation Golden Pill to rebuild his failing Dao foundation. 333 349 475
- Yu Hongyin — A fellow cultivator and occasional travelling companion. Ling Ningzhi becomes wary of Yu Hongyin's closeness to Chen Mo and openly questions her intentions. 448 469
- Zi Lianji — Chief of Martial Saint Mountain and a fellow Azure Cloud Ranking prodigy. He shows interest in Ling Ningzhi, but she remains consistently indifferent toward him. 112

Southern Heaven Prefecture Mission

Chen Mo later heals the injuries she sustained from this sacrifice. The event fundamentally changes her view of him and solidifies her resolve to remain by his side. 166 179
Public Recognition of Her Relationship
Ling Ningzhi openly identifies Chen Mo as her Dao companion before Chu Yanli, despite the Heavenly Pivot Pavilion's traditional hostility toward romantic attachments. 331 When she fears that Chen Mo has neglected her, she admits that she can accept his other relationships but asks him not to abandon her. 333
Qing Province Secret Realm
Ling Ningzhi enters the Qing Province secret realm to obtain immortal materials for Ling Yishan. She remains composed while trapped in Nüba's desert and refuses to surrender, citing her unfinished responsibilities to her grandfather, sect, and Chen Mo. 448
After surviving the expedition, she brings Ling Yishan the Evergreen Branch and Golden Sand Marrow obtained by Chen Mo, advancing the plan to refine the Creation Golden Pill. 475
Heavenly Pivot Pavilion Succession Crisis
Some Heavenly Pivot Pavilion elders attempt to strip Ling Ningzhi of her chief-disciple position, fearing that her relationship with Chen Mo will make the sect dependent on the imperial court. 504 Their argument collapses when Ling Ningzhi achieves Dao Integration and becomes a third-rank Heavenly Human Grandmaster. 504 505
Ling Ningzhi and Chen Mo subsequently hold a Dao-bonding ceremony. She and Ji Hongxiu secretly join Chen Mo in a three-person Dao-binding covenant, affirming that none of the three will be left behind. 506
