Background

Xu Ya founded the Golden Wing Martial Arts Hall and cultivated the Golden Wing Technique within the Broken Wing Sect’s lineage. He became a Third Realm martial artist through official support, but this advancement severed the Yuan Family’s Golden Eagle inheritance and made him a target of the sect and its surviving elders 165 224.

To secure his position and protect himself from sect retaliation, Xu Ya aligned himself closely with the authorities. He later acknowledged that power and wealth had clouded his judgment: he allowed Nightmare Realms to spread, used disciples as hostages, and traded training opportunities for money and influence 224 292.

Personality

Xu Ya initially acts as a forceful and politically calculating official. He is protective of the authority granted to him as a city person-in-charge, distrustful of unregistered Third Realm martial artists, and willing to intimidate people such as Hu Yuan to investigate potential threats 171 179.

Repeated defeats by Zhou Kai force him to reassess both his own strength and his priorities. Though humiliated, he learns to yield when outmatched, maintains a workable relationship with Zhou Kai, and eventually recognizes that his own survival should not come at the cost of others 172 200 263.

When Yuan Wuji returns to seek vengeance, Xu Ya accepts responsibility for having usurped the Yuan Family’s inheritance. Rather than flee and trigger a larger conflict between the authorities and the martial sects, he chooses to confront the threat himself 292.

Xishan Demon Realm Incident

Xu Ya arrives in Xishan City as the designated authority handling the Demon Realm incident. He attempts to claim a Mirage Core from Zhou Kai on the grounds that all Third Realm martial artists must be registered and that the final authority lies with him 171.

The confrontation escalates into battle in the Spirit Realm. Zhou Kai subdues Xu Ya, reveals his connection to the Broken Wing Sect and True Martial Arts, and negotiates cooperation: Zhou Kai will clear the remaining Demon Realm Cores in exchange for the Golden Wing Technique, the Golden Eagle True Form Visualization Diagram, and the city-supervisor position 172.

Recognition of Zhou Kai

Xu Ya later investigates Hu Yuan and the West Mountain Hotel, only to discover that Zhou Kai is behind the organization. He realizes Zhou Kai has grown even stronger since their first battle and begins treating him with greater caution 179.

During the selection for Xishan’s city representative, Zhou Kai easily defeats Xu Ya in front of the True Martial Alliance. Xu Ya is publicly humiliated but continues to cooperate with him as Zhou Kai establishes the Heart Limit Realm and spreads the Feather Demon Heart Limit Method 194 201.

Dachang and the Martial Sect Conflict

Xu Ya travels with Zhou Kai to Dachang City and helps investigate Nightmare Realm threats. However, after recognizing the scale of an upcoming mission involving numerous Third Realm experts, he withdraws rather than become a burden to Zhou Kai and Wen Si 258 263.

He remains an intermediary between Zhou Kai, the authorities, and martial artists from other sects. His support for Zhou Kai becomes increasingly explicit, including helping Yu Chijie after Zhou Kai’s defeat and warning others against provoking him 222 225.

Reckoning and Ascension

When Yuan Wuji returns, Xu Ya admits that he betrayed his masters and ancestors by seizing the Yuan Family’s Golden Eagle inheritance. He chooses to face Yuan Wuji alone, hoping to prevent a direct conflict between the martial sects and the authorities 292.

Captured within the Broken Wing Martial Source Nightmare Realm, Xu Ya is forced toward the Fourth Realm. Zhou Kai eventually finds him after defeating Yuan Wuji and helps him pursue ascension rather than succumb to monsterization 296.

Xu Ya regains his resolve and ascends, becoming an energy form shaped by the will of the Golden Eagle Martial Source. Zhou Kai later tells Wen Si that Xu Ya has not died, but has instead “become immortal” 297 299.
