Above the temple ruins, Gu Xiaoshan was so excited he could barely string words together, while Qiu Wu stood stunned, his face full of shock.
"The whole temple, every last horror, was crushed to death with a single palm strike!!"
Gu Xiaoshan's eyes shone. He turned, seized Qiu Wu by the shoulders, and shook him hard. "Old Qiu, Old Qiu! Did you see that?! A miracle! A miracle!"
Qiu Wu knocked his hands away. "I saw it. I'm not blind."
He walked forward a few steps and crouched beside a black mark on the ground. He touched it, then drew a sharp breath. "This is where that Buddha statue with the staff stood, isn't it? There's really nothing left. Not even ash. Just a black trace."
Gu Xiaoshan's eyelid twitched. Whether he felt joy or regret, he could not say. "After that god killed this nightmare, it really didn't leave a dream artifact behind."
Qiu Wu fell silent.
They had read the documents headquarters had issued. Those documents said the Sovereign Yellow Absolute God could kill nightmares at their root and destroy dream artifacts. At the time, they had only half believed it. Now that they had seen it with their own eyes, their feelings were tangled.
They were happy, of course. From now on, nightmares were no longer impossible to eliminate. Humanity had glimpsed the possibility of ending the supernatural age!
But alongside that joy came a sense of loss.
Before the "god" descended, Dreamers like them—especially official Dreamers such as Qiu Wu and Gu Xiaoshan, who fought on the front lines—had been humanity's undisputed heroes. Their existence was what had kept world order from collapsing overnight.
Now, though, they seemed to have become "useless."
When ordinary people encountered a nightmare, they no longer needed Dreamers to save them.
