| Name | Mangekyo (万花筒) |
| Alias(es) | Mangekyo Sharingan |
| Type | An advanced Sharingan state that produces a qualitative increase in ocular power and combat capability. |
| Known Wielders / Holders | Uchiha Fugaku, Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha White Dove; Kakashi formerly possessed a Mangekyo in his left eye. |
| First Appearance | Uchiha Fugaku activates his Mangekyo during his duel with White Dove 4 |
Known Bearers and Specimens
| Bearer / Specimen | Condition | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Uchiha Fugaku | Active, concealed | Fugaku possessed a Mangekyo but avoided exposing it during his fight with White Dove. White Dove suspected its unrevealed ability was either prophecy- or space-related after Fugaku evaded Mumyo Sandan-tsuki 5 28. |
| Uchiha Shisui | Original owner of a pair | Shisui awakened the Mangekyo and wielded the genjutsu Kotoamatsukami. Danzo stole his right eye; White Dove later took the remaining left eye and killed Shisui 16 18 19 20. |
| Uchiha White Dove | Transplanted user | White Dove reunited Shisui's pair, tested them in his underground laboratory, and transplanted them into himself. The transplant elevated his combat power to the Kage level 20 21 22. |
| Kakashi's left eye | Recovered specimen | White Dove secretly replaced Kakashi's left-eye Mangekyo with a Three-Tomoe Sharingan, retaining the original eye—identified as Kamui—for research and as a countermeasure against Obito 42 47. |
Characteristics
The Mangekyo represents a qualitative leap over a Three-Tomoe Sharingan. It enhances observation, judgment, reaction speed, chakra quality, and chakra control; White Dove found that his ninjutsu became stronger, less costly, and easier to manipulate after his transplant 5 22.
- A Mangekyo user is described as reaching Kage-level combat power even without Susanoo; Susanoo would raise that power further 5.
- White Dove's Uchiha bloodline allowed him to use Shisui's transplanted eyes with only slight dissonance, unlike most non-@@REF_ENTITY_11793163@@ transplant recipients 22.
- The eyes can be concealed with specially made contact lenses, allowing White Dove to appear to possess only a Three-Tomoe Sharingan 21 43.
- White Dove's examination concluded that Mangekyo eyes are fundamentally different from ordinary Sharingan, describing them as a crystallization of Yin Release 21.
Abilities & Skills
Enhanced Ocular Performance
Mangekyo activation substantially improves the user's ability to perceive, process, and react to combat.
- White Dove combined its insight with Lightning Cloak to contend with Killer B's seven-sword style 43.
- Its enhanced perception allowed him to evade rapid attacks and maintain close-quarters exchanges against Kage-level opponents 43.
- Mangekyo-level genjutsu can affect a Tailed Beast directly; White Dove used it to immobilize Gyuki in full Eight-Tails form 44.
Kotoamatsukami
Kotoamatsukami is Shisui's Mangekyo genjutsu. It alters a target's will without obvious detection and can impose lasting control 14.
- White Dove used it on Orochimaru after baiting him into a surprise attack 45.
- Its instructions must be set carefully to avoid contradictory or detectable changes in the target's behavior 45.
- White Dove can use the technique with greater finesse than a non-@@REF_ENTITY_11793163@@ transplant user due to his bloodline 46.
Radiance
Radiance is another ocular technique belonging to Shisui's Mangekyo pair.
- It is a short-duration genjutsu rather than Kotoamatsukami 44.
- White Dove used it on Gyuki, immediately halting the Eight-Tails' movements and trapping both beast and jinchuriki in the genjutsu 44.
Limitations and Risks
- Mangekyo techniques sharply consume ocular power; Radiance caused White Dove eye pain, bleeding, and a noticeable loss of ocular power 44.
- Ocular power cannot be replenished without exceptional sources such as Hashirama Cells or a Sage Body 44.
- After pushing Kotoamatsukami to its limit, White Dove exhausted his chakra, spent most of his ocular power, and could no longer see clearly beyond a short distance 46.
- Most outsiders suffer heavily from Sharingan transplants and cannot deactivate the eye at will; White Dove attributes his relatively stable use to being Uchiha 22 46.
Acquisition and Research
White Dove engineered the circumstances for Shisui's downfall by informing Danzo about Shisui's Mangekyo and Kotoamatsukami. After Danzo stole Shisui's right eye, White Dove impersonated Itachi, took Shisui's remaining eye, and used a pre-planted genjutsu suggestion to make Danzo exchange his stolen Mangekyo for a prepared Three-Tomoe Sharingan 14 18 19 20.
He stored the recovered eyes in nutrient solution, tested their activity and Yin Release compatibility in a hidden laboratory beneath the Uchiha compound, then performed self-surgery with Shadow Clone assistance. The procedure took less than ten minutes, after which his eyes began recovering with the aid of his natural vitality and secret medicines 21.
Later, White Dove acquired Kakashi's Kamui Mangekyo through a covert eye replacement. He kept it separate from Shisui's pair for research and as a potential counter to Obito, since both Kamui eyes access the same dimension 42 47.
Trivia
- White Dove repeatedly regards a Mangekyo as a “Kage-level pass,” since transplanting one immediately raises a compatible user's combat strength 14 19 21.
- One of White Dove's Mangekyo was removed and provided to Orochimaru for research after their arrangement in the Land of Hot Water 47.
- Fugaku's Mangekyo remains unrevealed; its suspected ability is based solely on White Dove's analysis of Fugaku's evasive maneuver 5.
