Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born the eldest son of Yu Yuanzhen, a direct descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. At six, his inherited Martial Soul mutated negatively into the detached beast spirit Luo Sanpao. With only half a level of Innate Soul Power and no offensive capability, he was labeled a “waste” and endured contempt from his clan. He responded by devoting himself to Martial Soul theory. 39

At sixteen, he met Bibi Dong at Martial Soul Hall. Their relationship gave him access to the Martial Soul Hall Library, where he browsed and transcribed its archives; Bibi Dong later learns through her simulation that he had deliberately approached her for those resources. When Qian Xunji confined Bibi Dong and forced their separation, Yu Xiaogang never attempted to rescue her. 122 123

During his travels, Yu Xiaogang met Flender and Liu Erlong. Together they formed the Golden Iron Triangle, becoming known through their three-person Martial Soul Fusion Skill, Golden Sacred Dragon; Yu Xiaogang received the title “Horn of Wisdom.” He later became engaged to Liu Erlong, only for Yu Luomian to reveal on their wedding night that they were first cousins. Yu Xiaogang fled, leaving Liu Erlong behind and breaking apart the Triangle. 39 97

He eventually took a position at Notting Academy, published the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, and accepted Tang San as his disciple after deducing that Tang San possessed Twin Martial Souls. He helped Tang San acquire and develop Solitary Bamboo spirit rings, including transplanting a bamboo grove for his future use. 23 39

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is intensely sensitive about his weak Martial Soul, low combat ability, and the ridicule he has received since childhood. He takes pride in his theoretical knowledge and repeatedly invokes his status as “Grandmaster,” even when events undermine his confidence. 22 38 77

He can be resourceful as a teacher: he prepared a transplanted Lone Bamboo grove for Tang San, identified a way to use the Clear Sky Hammer to address Tang San's disrupted skill progression, and later found uses for Tang San's Solitary Bamboo skills. 23 24 75 However, his guidance is also marked by misjudgments, including Tang San's unexpected Pole Dance and Lone Bamboo Basketball skills. 23 25

His attachment to Bibi Dong persists despite their separation and her eventual rejection. His desperation for recognition and affection leads him to rely on the Life Simulator, practice the Gangdong Three Farts, and seek refuge at Martial Soul Hall after Tang San and Tang Hao abandon him. 40 42 121 126

Luo Sanpao

Yu Xiaogang's original mutated Martial Soul is Luo Sanpao, a detached beast spirit described as having no offensive ability at awakening. Before its fusion, he uses it to discharge fart-based attacks. 38 39

Yu Xiaogang serves as Tang San's teacher at Notting Academy. He supplies Tang San with Lone Bamboo, attempts to resolve the latter's disrupted Pole Vault progression through the Clear Sky Hammer, and continues advising him after several spirit-skill mishaps. 23 24 25 75

Life Simulator

Lin Jiang binds Yu Xiaogang to the Life Simulator. The simulation recounts his past, predicts Tang San's eventual abandonment, and rewards him with Luo Sanpao's External Spirit Fusion, a self-created soul skill manual, and ten thousand radishes. 38 39 40

Shrek Academy confrontation

At Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang reveals his empowered Luo Sanpao Possession and defeats Tang San with Thinking-of-Dong Fart. He subsequently witnesses Lin Jiang overpower the Shrek group, leaving his confidence in Martial Soul theory severely shaken. 74 77 78 80

Golden Iron Triangle's collapse

Yu Xiaogang reunites with Liu Erlong at Blue Tyrant Academy, but her simulation has exposed his past actions and obsession with Bibi Dong. After Liu Erlong defeats and expels him, he and Flender become vagrants; their relationship deteriorates into blame and violence. 99 100 112 113

Rejection at Martial Soul Hall

Dismissed by Tang San and Tang Hao as dead weight, Yu Xiaogang travels to Martial Soul Hall expecting Bibi Dong to support him. Bibi Dong instead denounces him as a coward, sends him away, and leaves him vulnerable to an attack by thugs outside the city. 121 126
