As the group drew closer, the scene around the great hall gradually came into view.
The ground for several hundred zhang in every direction was made entirely of faintly writhing flesh.
Pits of various sizes dotted this fleshy ground.
The larger ones spanned several zhang, while the smaller ones were no bigger than washbasins. The muscle tissue around their rims had visibly caved in, their edges festered and oozed yellowish-brown slurry.
That slurry was thick and viscous. Every so often, a bubble rose to the surface, and when it burst, it spewed a cloud of grayish-yellow smoke carrying a heavy stench of rotting corpses.
Master Hundred Poisons' gaze swept over the flesh pits before his eyes fixed on the great hall sitting atop the mass of flesh.
The hall stood roughly five zhang tall and seven or eight zhang wide. Its depth could not be seen from outside, but it was at least over ten zhang deep.
Its walls consisted of layer upon layer of dark crimson fleshy folds. Each fold was as thick as an arm, its edges slightly curled back to reveal an even deeper red beneath.
Viscous fluid continually seeped from the cracks between the folds, slowly trickling down the walls and pooling into patches of dark moisture at the base.
There were no windows on the front of the hall, only a doorway two zhang tall and more than one zhang wide.
Looking through the doorway, they could see that the hall was brightly lit.
Several rows of bookshelves made of flesh stood against the walls, with more than a dozen jade slips stacked upon them.
In the open space between the shelves stood several dark-red stone pedestals, each bearing objects of various kinds.
