In the center of the interface was a 3D projection of himself, with the background being the very carriage he was currently in. Below it was an option labeled [Edit Appearance].
The left vertical column displayed four options: [Race], [Class], [Background], and [Attributes].
To the right was a detailed character card:
[Name: Ye Weian Xiaxing]
[Level]: LV.0 (15/0)
[Race]: Human
[Class]: Pending
[Attributes]: Strength 10, Dexterity 11, Constitution 10, Intelligence 12, Wisdom 11, Charisma 12
[Feat]: War Caster
[Spells]: Cantrips—Light, Minor Illusion, Prestidigitation
Ye Weian froze, then immediately realized—wasn't this the character creation interface from Baldur's Gate 3?
He had transmigrated precisely while playing that game.
Combining this with the memories of his predecessor, it was clear that this was the world of the game. It was just unclear whether the timeline was before or after the events of BG3.
Regardless, if this system functioned like the game, he would be able to acquire a class immediately. Even a level 1 class would make the current crisis trivial.
However, upon closer inspection, he noticed the interface wasn't exactly the same as in the game.
For instance, the [Race], [Attributes], and [Edit Appearance] options were all grayed out. [Race] was locked as [Human], and the latter two were completely unselectable.
This was understandable.
After all, this wasn't a real game. In reality, he had an identity and acquaintances; suddenly changing his appearance or race would be impossible to explain.
It was a pity he couldn't re-sculpt his face to be a handsome man; he had actually been looking forward to experiencing what it felt like to "rely on his looks to get by."
After reviewing the attribute bar, Ye Weian finally understood why his counterpart in this world had remained a mere magic apprentice despite years of hard study.
Looking at the six major attributes, they were all at the level of an average person, with nothing exceeding the norm.
Even his most prominent stat, Intelligence, was only slightly higher than the average of 10.
An Intelligence of 12 might have been enough to get into a top university back on Blue Star, but that was all.
With an Intelligence of 12, having spent four years at the Battlemage Academy mastering three cantrips and the [War Caster] feat, his predecessor could already be considered diligent.
[War Caster]: You know how to cast spells in combat. Your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma +1. You can cast spells while holding weapons. Your concentration is harder to break. When an enemy leaves your melee range, you can reflexively cast a spell at them as an opportunity attack.
As an academy dedicated to training practical battlemages, the War Caster technique was considered a foundational course at the Battlemage Academy.
This skill would allow him to cast spells steadily under chaotic conditions, which was very helpful for his current situation.
Putting aside these distracting thoughts, Ye Weian first clicked on the [Class] option.
Twelve base classes were displayed before him:
Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard.
Each class also had several sub-class branches.
He immediately ruled out Barbarian, Fighter, and Rogue; as for being melee cannon fodder, whoever wanted that job could have it.
Next, he crossed out Cleric, Warlock, Monk, and Paladin—as a modern person, he couldn't stand the idea of entrusting his fate to any deity, devil, or rigid oath.
The remaining choices were Bard, Ranger, Sorcerer, and Wizard.
Ye Weian thought for a moment and then excluded the first two.
In his previous life, he had been a "test-taking machine" from a small town, and his university major was software engineering—he really wasn't accustomed to wandering in the woods all day or singing and dancing in public.
Finally, his gaze settled on Sorcerer and Wizard.
Both were arcane spellcasters, which suited his preferences and aligned with his predecessor's experience at the Battlemage Academy. Even if he suddenly displayed related abilities, it wouldn't seem too abrupt to others.
Theoretically, he leaned more toward Wizard.
Wizards were the standard arcane spellcasters, relying on Intelligence to cast spells, possessing the widest selection of spells and the most comprehensive means of dealing with threats.
But, as if guided by a whim, his finger tapped on the [Sorcerer] tab.
If a Wizard was a scholar who shaped miracles through wisdom and knowledge, then a Sorcerer was a lucky soul who relied on bloodline and talent.
The blood of a dragon, the touch of a fiend, the blessing of a fey, or even a single drink from a mystical spring could ignite an innate magical spark.
Sorcerer spellcasting relied on Charisma.
Depending on the source of their power, Sorcerers derived various bloodlines: the [Draconic Bloodline] from dragons, [Divine Soul] from divine favor, [Shadow Magic] inherited from the Shadowfell, and so on.
Of course, most of the options were grayed out.
It seemed the Summerstar Family neither had an ancestor who dared to "date" a dragon, nor had they received any special favor from a deity.
Ye Weian's gaze fell on the only two available options: [Wild Magic] and [Spellfire Sorcerer].
[Wild Magic] stemmed from the chaotic surges of wild magic.
Every time a Wild Magic Sorcerer cast a spell, it could trigger various random effects—if lucky, it might instantly heal wounds or even cast a high-level spell out of thin air; if unlucky, it might turn him into a sheep or blast a fireball right into his own forehead.
It was certainly entertaining in a game, but in reality, it would get you killed.
That left only one choice.
[Spellfire Sorcerer]: Your innate power stems from the source of the Weave, a rare talent known as "Spellfire." The echoes of this primal magic surge within you at all times. With this gift, you can scorch enemies, heal allies, and even devour the spells of your foes.
This subclass does not rely on a specific bloodline or miracle; it originates purely from the awakening of personal talent, making it perfect for Ye Wei'an's current "blank slate" status.
In terms of value, a Spellfire Sorcerer is far superior to the likes of a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, Wild Magic Sorcerer, or Divine Soul Sorcerer—it touches the very source of magic.
There are fewer than twenty recorded users of Spellfire in the history of Faerûn, most of whom were chosen by the Goddess of Magic.
The power of a Spellfire Sorcerer is worthy of such rarity.
It not only balances offense and healing but can also restore sorcery points by absorbing enemy spells, significantly enhancing metamagic capabilities; it is powerful and versatile.
The Sorcerer class itself does not lack damage output, and the Spellfire Sorcerer serves as an excellent enhancement.
Ye Wei'an did not hesitate and made his selection immediately.
Level 1 [Spellfire Sorcerer] grants him the ability [Magic Absorption] and a cantrip: [Spellfire Flame].
[Magic Absorption]: When you take spell damage, you can absorb a portion of the energy to reduce the damage taken.
This ability is strong against spellcasters, though it is useless against a bunch of local bandits.
[Spellfire Flame]: Can be cast without preparation. Summon a bolt of arcane fire from the sky to scorch the enemy; this fire is treated as both radiant and fire damage. When your caster level reaches 5, 11, and 17, the cantrip's damage increases.
As a damage spell, [Spellfire Flame] is quite overpowered.
First, it requires no preparation and can be cast instantly; second, it possesses both light and fire attributes, giving it a wide range of effectiveness; finally, the attack manifests out of thin air with no projectile, making it extremely difficult to dodge or block.
Compared to standard damage cantrips like [Fire Bolt] or [Ray of Frost], [Spellfire Flame] is leagues ahead.
Furthermore, becoming a Level 1 Sorcerer provides four cantrips and two Level 1 spells.
For his cantrips, he chose:
[True Strike]: Gain a momentary magical insight, making the next weapon attack a perfect strike. Through this cantrip, even an ordinary person who has never held a blade can use a weapon to severely wound a trained soldier;
[Mage Hand]: Summon an invisible magical hand to assist in actions; a very practical cantrip.
[Charm Person]: Temporarily make the target view the caster as a friend; can be used for post-battle interrogation.
[Four Symbols Method]: Create or manipulate small amounts of the four elements—air, earth, water, and fire—such as digging up a small patch of land, creating a gust of wind, or producing a pot of water. It has no direct lethality but is extremely versatile.
For his Level 1 spells, he chose [Mage Armor] and [Silver Light Sharp Tongue].
[Mage Armor] generates a layer of invisible magical armor, which can save his life in a critical moment.
[Silver Light Sharp Tongue] disrupts the enemy's mind, turning their momentary hesitation into encouragement for his own side; it is both offensive and defensive, a classic "broken" spell.
Combined with the ranged output of [Spellfire Flame], he now possesses melee output, ranged output, crowd control, defense, and support—he can be considered fully prepared.
This is the benefit of the system's stat allocation.
Normally, a Sorcerer's spells awaken on their own, and which spells one gets is entirely up to luck. It is common to end up with a combination that is all offense, all support, or completely nonsensical; it is almost impossible to assemble such a practical spell list.
With the class selected, he immediately looked at the bonuses provided by his [Race].
[Race]: Human
[Racial Traits]:
Ability Score Increase: +1 to two different attributes of your choice.
Feat: Gain one origin feat of your choice.
For the attribute bonuses, one point definitely had to go to Charisma, and the other was allocated to Constitution.
Survival is paramount; he still cherished his life.
There were many feats to choose from, but considering the original owner's stats were truly abysmal, Ye Wei'an prioritized feats that could increase Charisma.
Among practical feats like [Spell Sniper], [Telepathy], [Telekinetic], and [Inspiring Leader], Ye Wei'an chose [Telepathy].
[Telepathy]: You know how to cast spells in combat; your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma +1; you can communicate telepathically with nearby creatures—provided they understand your language; you master the Level 2 spell [Detect Thoughts].
The ability of telepathy would allow him to coordinate with teammates on a noisy battlefield, and [Detect Thoughts] was a god-tier skill for interrogation.
Naturally, he chose Charisma for the attribute bonus.
Added to the bonus from [War Caster], his Charisma attribute increased by another +2.
Finally, the [Background] option.
The so-called [Background] reflects the bonuses brought by a character's social status.
Among the many options, Ye Wei'an only had two choices: [Noble] and [Sage].
[Noble] stemmed from his birth, while [Sage] corresponded to his experience at the Battlemage Academy.
Choosing [Sage] would allow him to select a few more spells, but [Noble] provided an attribute bonus to Charisma.
After a brief struggle, Ye Wei'an chose the latter.
For attribute allocation, he once again put +2 into Charisma and +1 into Intelligence.
As the final option was selected, Ye Wei'an's 3D avatar on the interface looked completely different.
The once helpless little figure was now hovering in place, surrounded by swirling blue and white flames, looking every bit the formidable Sorcerer.
A pop-up window appeared in the center of the panel:
[Character construction complete. Exit current interface?]
It was time to return to reality.
Ye Wei'an took a deep breath and pressed "Yes" with his mind.
The gray-white world shattered abruptly.
