Background / History

Cain's father had served as a knight to the Baron. Cain himself spent three years in the Purple Dragon Order before returning at the old Baron's request to inherit his father's duties. The Orm Family had served the Summerstar Family for generations and was known for adhering to an old knightly code of loyalty and upright conduct. 10

He initially escorted Ye Wei'an during the ambush on the road to Firefall Fortress. Though unable to break away from the bandit leader to protect Ye Wei'an directly, Cain rallied the guards after seeing Ye Wei'an's spellcasting and later pursued the fleeing bandits. 4 5 He worked with Ye Wei'an through telepathic coordination to capture the bandit leader alive. 6

Cain's trust in Ye Wei'an grew during the journey to Firefall Town. After witnessing Ye Wei'an identify ambushes, bypass hazards, and navigate unfamiliar forest routes more efficiently than known roads, Cain regarded following Ye Wei'an's commands as the party's greatest guarantee of safety. 13

When Gray Crow revealed Selina's involvement in the assassination plot, Cain struggled between his hereditary service to the Summerstars and his knightly principles. He ultimately rejected Selina's methods and swore to protect Ye Wei'an, later pledging the Orm Family's future to him. 24

Appearance

Cain is a weathered, short brown-haired knight. His physique became increasingly hardened through campaigning, and he is commonly seen armed and armored in the manner of a Purple Dragon Knight. 10 69 157

  • Wears heavy armor in combat, including adamantine armor during later campaigns. 60

Personality

Cain is honorable, direct, and deeply committed to the knightly code. He recognizes assassination and intra-family treachery as injustices that cannot be excused by political loyalty. 24 His straightforward nature leaves him less adept at noble intrigue, but it also makes him dependable and sincere. 10 16

He is fiercely protective of Ye Wei'an and his soldiers. Even when Marcus Blackbone's Aura of Fear and Command immobilized him, Cain still attempted to reach and defend his lord. 54 As a commander, he inspires strong loyalty among his old subordinates and takes pride in their advancement. 53 61
