Only after the three loosely arranged Necron ships adjusted their positions did the lances cease hanging motionless and skim past them.

The small beam weapons mounted on those three relatively small vessels opened fire.

When the beams struck one of humanity's cruisers, they visibly slowed for a moment as they passed through the Void Shield, then pierced the cruiser at normal speed.

Such small-scale penetrating damage was not fatal to a large vessel, but the crew rushing to repair the breach discovered that the area struck by the penetrating beam was rapidly catching fire.

The Adamantium seemed to have become hard cotton, and flames spread through the entire ship at an unimaginable speed.

At last, in an explosive blaze that made Quaren's eyes sting, the struck cruiser became burning dust.

The other warships in the cruiser formation charged toward the Necron vessels at full speed, attempting to ram the enemy with their prows.

But when the small beam weapons aboard all three Necron ships fired simultaneously and swept across them once, the remaining ships of the cruiser formation instantly burst into flames and exploded.

"This is impossible!" Quaren cried.

"They have altered many physical laws," the Adeptus Mechanicus adviser said coldly. "These three ships are using physical laws as weapons. Our numerical advantage cannot bridge the technological gap. Our entire fleet will be annihilated by them."

The adviser was not exaggerating.

The beams released by those three Necron ships did not decay. If they wished, they could sweep their beams across the entire Solar System fleet,
