"The Legion Commander's full-scale counteroffensive has been going on for over half a month."
"We've made rapid progress during this half month, and the situation has completely reversed."
"But the rebels have recently managed to establish defensive positions."
As the 87th Regiment cleared a small city they had just captured, Duncan sat inside a Leman Russ Tank, writing his record and recalling recent events.
For at least half a month, the rebels had shown no organization whatsoever; they couldn't even react uniformly when facing an attack.
Some ran around haphazardly, some scattered, and some charged in with bombs strapped to them for suicide attacks.
This situation changed after half a month.
The rebels began to organize effective defenses. Although their actions were still quite chaotic from a global perspective, they had indeed recovered some combat effectiveness in localized battles.
Unfortunately, this still posed no threat to the ground forces.
Just like this small city that the 87th and 31st Regiments had cooperated to attack, Artillery Drones and Fire Support Drones had carried out terrifying bombardments, and the others only needed to advance and clear out the rebels in the city.
"My brother, I will let the sky see your ashes, but not now, because we cannot leave the Underhive yet."
Duncan wrote the last sentence and closed his diary.
Albert's name was written on the cover of the diary.
Looking at the name, Duncan felt a pang of guilt.
When Qin Mo had come to him earlier to ask for instructions, he hadn't relayed Albert's dying wish, but guilt aside, Duncan didn't believe he had done anything wrong.
The counteroffensive was currently underway, and the Underhive war was not yet over.
People come first, and matters have priorities.
"But I feel we will achieve victory; everyone thinks so. After that, I will personally help you fulfill your dying wish," Duncan muttered to himself, placing the diary into the metal box beneath the seat.
This metal box was issued one per person, used for storing mementos. It was incredibly sturdy but not very spacious.
"Regimental Commander, you have to see this!"
Duncan heard someone call him, followed by the sound of knocking on the tank's armor. He immediately climbed out.
"You really must see this." A company commander held up a piece of power armor wreckage.
Duncan reached out, took the wreckage, and plugged a cable from under the power armor's helmet into the wreckage's interface. Immediately, a video began to play within his faceplate.
"This seems to be an underground air-raid shelter at the gang's headquarters. Be careful."
"Got it, got it."
"Your Crimson Crests gang headquarters has underground air-raid shelters like this?"
The footage was from a first-person perspective, showing a soldier with a red mohawk and other soldiers.
It was an infantry squad.
"Why aren't you wearing a helmet? Showing off your mohawk?"
"No, I'm afraid the Legion Commander won't be able to see my face when he surveys the entire battlefield."
"..."
The infantry squad chatted as they advanced through the underground air-raid shelter.
There were many rooms, and the soldiers explored them one by one.
Until they reached the deepest part.
When the flashlight on the power armor's shoulder shone into the darkness ahead, the infantry squad saw dense clusters of Abominations gathered there. They were all blocking the entrance to a room.
The beam of light attracted the attention of the Abominations, and the infantry squad began to flee. Just as they were about to rush out of the air-raid shelter's main entrance, the camera spun violently, flying a great distance.
Clearly, the soldier filming the video had his head smashed off.
"What should we do?" the company commander asked, a hint of anticipation in his voice.
"Report the situation and request the Legion Commander's guards to come," Duncan replied.
Hearing this answer, the company commander couldn't hide his disappointment. He said with slight dissatisfaction, "If you'll permit me to say, Regimental Commander, this is an opportunity for us to earn merit. Why don't we send two companies and two tanks to lure out the Abominations and kill them?"
"I want to earn merit, but the problem is, do you know how many Abominations are in there? Do you know if there are even more terrifying creatures in the room they're blocking?"
"We must eliminate any possibility of things getting out of control."
"During rest time tonight, all soldiers in the regiment will copy the power armor functional manual ten times. Not only must the section on biological detection functions be copied, but it must also be memorized."
After speaking, Duncan returned to his tank, giving the company commander no chance to persuade him further.
The company commander reluctantly carried out the order.
Two minutes later.
Outside the gang headquarters, which was now surrounded by infantry and tanks, a transport aircraft changed from flight mode to hovering.
In the eyes of other regular troops, the Legion Commander's guards were always responsive and arrived very promptly. This time, however, it was Grot who arrived.
The soldiers present were terrified when they first saw the power armor on Grot.
Because Grot was wielding a gravity hammer, and the power armor was covered in bloodstains from head to toe, he had clearly just come from a battle, and it was a battle fought in his favorite way.
But when they saw Grot's face, the soldiers instantly relaxed.
This was because Grot was very good to his own people. Not only was he not as stoic as Grey, but he would even encourage others after a battle, or just hang out together.
"No way, brothers," Grot said, scanning the people present with his gravity hammer. "I'll respond to everyone's calls for help as much as I can, but can't all of you handle a bunch of abominations?"
In addition to two companies of infantry, there were also two tanks present.
The abominations were mindless, especially now that their Chieftain was dead. Any simple plan could wipe them out.
"There are indeed many abominations here, but there's a strange situation: all these abominations are blocking a room," an officer stepped forward to explain in detail.
"Oh, I see," Grot then understood the more detailed situation. When he received the request, he only knew that these people wanted him to deal with the abominations.
"Follow me," Grot said, carrying his gravity hammer into the building. "This way, you'll get credit for it after it's done."
Upon hearing this, the officer was overjoyed, thinking that Grot was truly a considerate person.
If Grey had come, he probably would have gone in without a word, let alone thinking about helping others.
The group immediately entered the building and headed for the underground air-raid shelter.
"I've got my gravity shield on, folks, so don't get too close later," Grot said. While he was willing to bring them along, he didn't want them to interfere with his enjoyment of the fight.
Hearing that he had his gravity shield on, those who had planned to stay nearby and provide fire support immediately retreated, fearing they might accidentally be run over by the gravity shield.
Grot strode forward and used biological detection to scan for all non-human entities present.
The HUD map marked the enemy positions, totaling two hundred and thirty-one abominations.
Grot observed the map and found that these abominations were indeed very densely packed, as if they were blocking something. However, whatever they were blocking was clearly not biological, otherwise, it would have been detected.
Of course, it was also possible that it couldn't be detected for other reasons.
"What the hell is this?" Grot turned around to warn the others, "When the situation gets bad, you guys run immediately. I have a gravity shield, but you don't."
"Don't worry, if it weren't for the Regimental Commander insisting on finding you, we wouldn't be here in this hellhole fighting abominations hand-to-hand. We would have lured them out and bombed them long ago," the officer said helplessly.
