On the battlefield on Brumm's surface, Lucius moved at extreme speed.
All the twisted freaks created by Fabius had awakened, almost filling the entire sky and ground.
It was obvious that Fabius could not possibly have modified such an enormous number of monsters one by one. Most bore no traces of stitching or alteration, which meant they had been bred.
Even while moving at extreme speed, Lucius could devote nearly all his focus to thinking.
He recalled that Fabius had once hired him to collect Tyranid corpses from Baal. Perhaps those monsters that clearly appeared naturally born were the results of Fabius's research into the Tyranids.
Lucius looked ahead again.
His thoughts and vision were exceptionally clear now, allowing him to see an immense distance.
The strange warships in the sky ahead were bombarding the surface, but their orbital bombardment was ineffective within the Eye of Terror. Just like the orbital bombardments conducted by the strike cruisers of the Imperium Space Marines who had charged into the Eye of Terror during the Abyssal Crusade, the bombardments turned into massive fireworks exploding in the sky after falling from orbit.
This was the home-field advantage of the Eye of Terror's inhabitants.
Beneath the sky, the strange giant whale that had fallen from above lay motionless on the ground.
Many warriors were positioned around the giant whale, slaughtering any enemies that approached it.
Lightning and fire descended from the sky or erupted from the ground from time to time. Each appearance of that strange power devoured vast numbers of Fabius's creations.
Lucius realized the enemy clearly was not in much of a hurry. Though they had descended from the sky, they took no further action, merely holding their position in a defense they had no need to maintain.
They were waiting.
