After entering the Webway Vashtorr had carved out with the Discordant Engine, Qin Mo looked around and found it completely unlike what he had imagined.
There were no vast numbers of guards, no defensive machines, nor any military structures.
Marks of decay and corruption, things of unknown purpose made from a mixture of flesh and machinery, were everywhere. The Webway's wall-like barriers were not the gold of the Old Ones' Webway, and there were things here that should not have existed.
For example, unmistakably human, unmutated severed limbs, clad in the uniforms of the mortal Chaos cultists they had seen on the battlefield earlier, and corpses with no mutations on their bodies.
Human corpses and severed limbs lay everywhere throughout the incomparably vast Webway.
Some of the human corpses were considerably larger than most of the others. These larger bodies were concealed within bone-colored armor; the armor's color scheme alone identified them as Astartes from the Dark Angels.
"It looks like a battle took place here." Guilliman crouched down, examining every place where he believed clues might be found.
Qin Mo turned to look behind him.
Guilliman was not the only one who had entered the Webway with him. Bik and Sal, who piloted the Titan, had come as well.
Compared with Guilliman, those two clearly possessed faster means of investigation.
"A battle did indeed take place here." Sal communed with the seer within the Titan and received more detailed information.
"A battle took place?" Qin Mo frowned as he swept his gaze over their surroundings, then raised a question. "A battle broke out in a place so large that even a Titan looks small here, and there are so many pure human corpses that it looks as if an expeditionary force fought a great battle with Chaos servants here—yet
