In the late autumn of Magnolia Calendar Year 9991, seven-year-old Wharton went to study at O'Brien Academy under the guidance of the steward Hiri.
Of course, Ninth Level Magical Beast Golden-Patterned Thunder Ant, Lei Guang, went with him as well.
The other Ninth Level Magical Beast, Jin Ge, remained at the Baruch Old Residence to guard the house.
That afternoon, Moke and Linley returned to the Ernst Institute.
Late at night, Moke's courtyard was utterly quiet. He sat cross-legged on his bed, faintly excited.
"Sacred Beast White Tiger Cub?"
With a thought, Moke chose to extract the Sacred Beast White Tiger Cub.
At once, a tiny white furry creature curled into a ball appeared within a cluster of white light, and Moke reached out to catch it.
The little fellow was only the size of an ordinary kitten. Moke could hold him in both hands.
The instant Moke touched him, a tremor from the depths of his soul surged forth, making Moke understand that the Sacred Beast White Tiger Cub had already formed a contract with him.
"Rawr, rawr~"
The little fellow in his palm trembled, then opened his eyes in confusion and let out several exceedingly childish roars.
Then, he shakily stood up in Moke's palm, climbed up Moke's arm, and finally clung tightly to his shoulder, affectionately licking Moke's face with his tiny pink tongue.
"Master, Master~" At the same time, the little fellow's childish voice sounded in Moke's mind.
"Hiss!"
"What an absolutely adorable creature!"
Moke grabbed the little fellow by the back of his neck and held him up before his eyes for a closer look, discovering that he was a male tiger.
Moreover, the Sacred Beast White Tiger Cub looked much like an ordinary white tiger cub, only smaller, with a body no larger than that of a normal kitten.
Held up by Moke, his four limbs immediately flailed wildly in the air. "Master, Master, put me down! Put me down!"
The little fellow did not know how long ago he had been born. Though his voice was childish, he could already communicate with Moke through their souls with ease.
Moke placed him back in his palm and communicated through their souls. "What is your name? Do you know where you came from?"
"Master, I have no name. I am a Divine Beast born of heaven and earth."
The little fellow replied in a childish voice, "I only awakened after forming a contract with Master. Wasn't it Master who found me?"
The little fellow looked equally bewildered, so Moke could not obtain any more useful information.
"I see."
Moke nodded. "Then how about I call you Fu Gui from now on?"
Fu Gui was the name of a white cat Moke had raised in his previous life.
Unfortunately, that white cat had slipped out one day and never returned.
"Okay, okay."
Fu Gui nodded excitedly, but then his stomach began to rumble. "Master, I'm hungry. Can you find me something to eat?"
He rolled around in Moke's palm, wriggling with his soft belly facing upward, while his round eyes kept glancing at Moke's spatial ring.
Moke quickly took out some food for him, but Fu Gui unexpectedly shook his head. "Master, these foods contain too little energy."
"Master, take out the good stuff. Fu Gui can smell it."
He began wriggling again, licking Moke's palm with his tongue to curry favor.
"Good stuff?"
Moke himself was a little confused. There was not much in his spatial ring.
Aside from some food and clothes, there were only a few gold coins and magic crystal cards.
"Hmm? Could it be this?" Moke took out the Eighth-Level Magic Crystal Core he had obtained after killing the Eighth-Level Magical Beast Purple Crystal Spirit Fox.
"That's it, that's it!" Fu Gui's round eyes widened, and he nearly drooled as he scampered up Moke's shoulder.
"You eat Magic Crystal Cores?" Moke stared as he handed over the Eighth-Level Magic Crystal Core.
Then he watched the little white tiger hug the Magic Crystal Core, which was even smaller than a walnut, and crunch it to pieces. His face wore an intoxicated expression.
"Burp~"
Before long, the furry little Fu Gui let out a satisfied burp.
Moke stared in astonishment. "Fu Gui, how many Magic Crystal Cores can you eat at once? How often do you need to eat?"
He felt a little nervous. If Fu Gui needed an Eighth-Level Magic Crystal Core for every meal, Moke might have to live in the Magical Beast Forest.
After all, an Eighth-Level Magic Crystal Core cost five hundred thousand gold coins apiece. The wealth he had on hand was not enough to buy many, so he would need to hunt them himself.
"Is this called a Magic Crystal Core? It's so delicious." The little white tiger licked his lips contentedly, then said, "Master, I need one month to completely digest what I just ate."
"Whew!"
Moke immediately breathed a sigh of relief, and so did the high-level magical beasts of the Magical Beast Forest.
One Eighth-Level Magic Crystal Core a month was still affordable for now.
"But this little fellow was only just born, wasn't he? His appetite will definitely grow much larger in the future."
Moke suddenly felt some pressure.
He thought to himself that raising a child really was not an easy matter.
Then, Moke conducted some simple tests on the little white tiger's abilities.
"A wind-element magical beast. His speed and strength are roughly at the level of a Fifth-Level Magical Beast. Having this level of combat power right after birth does fit the standards of a Sacred Beast cub."
Moke did not know whether the little white tiger possessed only the wind element or had other elements that had yet to reveal themselves. After all, the little white tiger was still too young and clueless, just like the young Bebe.
"For now, I'll raise him. If he has any innate divine abilities, he'll probably need to reach the Saint Realm or become a god before they awaken." Moke made a simple judgment.
Thus, from that day onward, Linley and the others discovered that an extremely adorable little white tiger named Fu Gui had appeared on Moke's shoulder.
The little fellow was so cute that he instantly won everyone's hearts.
However, Fu Gui and Bebe seemed naturally incompatible. Whenever they met, they would inevitably fight, spitting at each other so rudely that Moke and Linley could only look on with black lines across their foreheads.
In the winter of Magnolia Calendar Year 9991, heavy snow filled the skies, turning the back mountain of the Ernst Institute completely white.
Moke sat cross-legged on a smooth rock. Snowflakes drifted down in great swathes, yet strangely, none of them could land on him.
It was as though an invisible spatial barrier surrounded Moke.
Suddenly, Moke floated into the air and moved freely through the sky, as if borne aloft by the wind. Fu Gui, watching from the snowy ground in the distance, was dumbfounded.
"Seventh-Level Mage. I rushed forward and, relying on the Flat Blade Style, finally became a Seventh-Level Mage just one month after my tenth birthday."
A smile appeared on Moke's lips.
What he had just cast was the Seventh-Level wind-element spell, Flight Technique.
After returning to the Ernst Institute from home, Linley had taught Moke the Flat Blade Style. With Moke's talent, he mastered it even faster than Linley, and after several more months of arduous cultivation, he finally became a Seventh-Level Mage.
"Becoming a Seventh-Level Mage at ten years old is one thing, but becoming an Eighth-Level Mage will be much harder. It will probably take four or five years, or perhaps even longer, of bitter cultivation."
As Moke pondered this, he flipped his wrist, and the Iron Leaf Sword appeared in his hand.
He lightly slashed forward. The goose-feather snowflakes drifting before him seemed to freeze suddenly, suspended in midair.
Everything around him seemed to come to a halt, as though the entire space had solidified.
Boom!
The vast mass of frozen snowflakes suddenly exploded, turning the area misty and hazy.
"Becoming a Seventh-Level Mage is not my greatest breakthrough." Moke nodded in satisfaction. "My greatest breakthrough is that I have finally comprehended the profound method of the level known as Shi."
"Shi—when a sword strike draws upon the momentum of heaven and earth around it to crush the enemy. How could an ordinary Ninth Level expert withstand this strike of mine?"
