The sky gradually darkened.
In Simulation City, countless contestants cautiously made their way toward the supermarket. Their clothes were ragged, and some were even stained with blood. Clearly, they had been through plenty of hardship.
From time to time, terrifying monsters appeared along the streets, patrolling the city. If they were spotted by one of these monsters, they would surely be swarmed. Then they'd be done for.
The entire city was fraught with danger.
"Damn it, that monster's too strong."
"Of course it's strong. It's a One-Horned Thunder Leopard, a monster in the Martial Artist Realm. Who could beat it?"
"The organizers are seriously messed up! They actually put the token under that One-Horned Thunder Leopard's butt. Who could possibly get it like that? Going after the leopard would be suicide!"
The students were beside themselves with frustration. They had planned to find the token quickly and claim it, but who could have guessed that the monster guarding it would be so powerful? It could match a Martial Artist Realm fighter.
A group of over a hundred students had charged in, only to be badly beaten by the One-Horned Thunder Leopard. They scattered in all directions, and more than a dozen of them had nearly been killed.
Fortunately, the organizers had been watching from nearby and stepped in to save them, sparing the students from death. Even so, they were eliminated from the competition.
Even those who hadn't been eliminated had suffered injuries of one kind or another. They'd also been chased by wild beasts along the way. After a whole day, they were parched and exhausted, wishing they could lie down and rest right away.
