They knew there was something rotten within the City Lord's Mansion—that the City Lord might have been possessed by a Nether Ghost, and that all of Qingyang City had long since become a breeding ground for Nether Ghosts, leaving the human race worse off than dead.
Now that Xia Ping had killed these parasites of the human race, it might actually be a good thing.
Yet others harbored soaring ambitions. They believed that now the City Lord and so many high-ranking officials were dead, they themselves had rendered great service and held the army in their grasp. There was no reason for them to bow beneath another.
There were also the City Lord's direct troops among them. They were fiercely loyal to the City Lord, so naturally they could not obey the orders of someone whose origins were unknown.
At once, three or four generals stepped forward, disdainful smiles on their faces.

A general in black spoke up. "To be frank, never mind whether what you said is true or false. Even if it is true—if the City Lord sided with the Nether Ghosts and the many elders were traitors to humanity, and you
