Background / History
Guardian of Sea God Island
Bo Saixi had guarded Sea God Island for nearly a century by the time Dugu Yan arrived. As High Priestess, she represented the Sea God and held authority over the island's Sacred Pillar Guardians. She rarely left the island, though she understood the prestige of mainland Title Douluos 68 69.
She also spent decades waiting for her beloved Tang Chen. His unexplained disappearance became an obsession that eventually conflicted with her responsibility to assist the Sea God's successor 84 111 118.
Recognition of Dugu Yan
Bo Saixi first intervened when Dugu Bo retaliated against Sea Maiden Douluo, who had mistaken him and Dugu Yan for invaders. She purified Dugu Bo's poison attack and suppressed him with her aura, demanding an explanation for his intrusion and assault on a Sacred Pillar Guardian 67.
Her hostility vanished when Dugu Yan revealed the Sea God Trident Mark. Bo Saixi withdrew her pressure, knelt before the successor, and apologized to Dugu Bo. After Dugu Yan pardoned Sea Maiden Douluo, Bo Saixi ordered the guardian to recover and reflect in seclusion 68.
She opened the route into Sea God Island, welcomed the pair to Sea God Hall, and pledged the island's resources to Dugu Yan's inheritance. At the Sea Horse Sacred Pillar, she ordered the divine assessments activated and encouraged Dugu Bo to receive a trial as well 68 69. Once Dugu Yan's Nine Trials descended, Bo Saixi formally acknowledged her as the island's highest authority 70.
Conflict over the Trials
Bo Saixi initially admired Dugu Yan's ingenuity in using the Sea God's Light to cultivate. Her admiration became apprehension after Dugu Yan absorbed a 150,000-year God-Given Spirit Ring at level 70 72 74 75.
Their relationship deteriorated during Tidal Body Tempering. Dugu Yan dispersed her soul power and used the waves to strengthen her body and fuse poison. Bo Saixi regarded this as the creation of a dangerous, potentially devastating vessel, but did not intervene because the Sea God Mark continued to accept Dugu Yan's actions. She warned that she would stop Dugu Yan if her power consumed her 80.
Yu Nan subsequently explained that opening the final Gate of Inheritance would ordinarily require Bo Saixi to sacrifice her own life and soul. He attributed her resistance to her desire to remain alive until she could see Tang Chen again, and warned that she might attack the successor. This warning concerned a possible future action, not an attack she had already carried out 84.
Bo Saixi's own thoughts confirmed her relief when Dugu Yan pretended to fear continuing the trials. Hoping the successor would remain away for years, she approved an overseas training journey and agreed to provide an expensive defensive ship 85. She ordered Sea Dragon Douluo to mobilize the seven guardians and the island's best craftsmen, then arranged immediate transport to the mainland aboard the Sea God Shuttle 86 87.
Tang Chen's Fate
Dugu Yan's unexpectedly early return alarmed Bo Saixi. Nevertheless, she arranged and personally presided over the Fifth Trial. After Dugu Yan defeated all seven Sacred Pillar Guardians within one stick of incense, Bo Saixi judged her strength to be at the demigod level and confirmed her success 107 108.
Before departing for the Capital of Slaughter, Dugu Yan confronted Bo Saixi with knowledge of Tang Chen's disappearance and offered to bring back news 109. On her return, she told Bo Saixi that Tang Chen was alive but severely damaged after decades of possession by the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King 118.
Bo Saixi broke down upon hearing his condition and his promise to wait for her in the next life. She thanked Dugu Yan for delivering his words. The possibility that Dugu Yan could eventually help Tang Chen gave her renewed hope, and she again offered the island's full assistance 118 119. Dugu Yan later temporarily suppressed Tang Chen's affliction with Ultimate Ice Poison and brought him to Sea God Island to reunite with her 140.
Service under the New Sea God
When Dugu Yan returned for her ascension, Bo Saixi welcomed her with the Seven Sacred Pillar Guardians. She accepted both Dugu Yan's inheritance and the incorporation of Sea God Island into the Douluo Empire, stating that the island would obey her commands 147.
Dugu Yan attained godhood without Bo Saixi's sacrifice. When Bo Saixi subsequently offered to fulfill her remaining duty, Dugu Yan refused and retained her as High Priestess, charging her with governing the ocean. Bo Saixi responded by swearing eternal loyalty 148.
Her next assignment was to use a drop of Dugu Yan's divine blood as the core of a new main statue. She pledged to mobilize the island's resources to create the statue as Sea God Island and the Endless Sea Area shifted their worship to Dugu Yan 149.
Appearance
- Face and bearing: Exquisitely beautiful, noble, and elegant, with a sacred, imposing presence 67.
- Eyes: Deep blue, repeatedly compared to the sea 72 80.
- Hair: Silver-white, visible while she waits on the cliff outside Sea God Hall 118.
- Clothing: Crimson robes or a red dress 67 118.
- Signature accessory: A three-meter-long golden scepter 67.
Personality
Bo Saixi generally maintains a calm, dignified exterior and expects obedience from the island's guardians. Her reverence for the Sea God is immediate and visible: recognizing Dugu Yan's Trident Mark prompts her to kneel, apologize, and treat the young successor with both devotion and an elder's affection 67 68.
Her judgment is strongly influenced by her love for Tang Chen and fear of dying before their reunion. She conceals her relief at Dugu Yan's departure behind sympathetic advice, willingly spending substantial island resources to delay the inheritance that she believes will cost her life 84 85 87.
She can acknowledge talent even when it frightens her. Dugu Yan's training methods inspire admiration, while the Calamity Poison Body provokes concern about catastrophic harm. After receiving news of Tang Chen, her guarded hostility gives way to gratitude and hope; being spared from sacrifice ultimately secures her declared loyalty to Dugu Yan 72 80 118 119 148.
