The lord of the Plain of Infinite Portals was the famed Obyrith demon lord—the Prince of the Wind, Pazuzu. His striking appearance made him impossible to ignore. He had the tall, well-proportioned body of a man, and when he walked, his powerful birdlike talons scraped against the ground with a piercing screech. Two pairs of wings gleaming with an oily sheen beat amid the swirling smoke behind him. Beneath his handsome head, which combined human and eagle features, his hooked beak was filled with extraordinarily sharp teeth.
Pazuzu was a unique existence within the Abyss. He was one of the earliest and most powerful Obyrith lords, and his independence had long rankled the Queen of Chaos. Since breaking away, Pazuzu himself had changed alongside the Abyss. Even while still an Obyrith, he had already gained the recognition of the Tanar'ri, and he displayed an identity somewhere between those two races. Because of this nature, Pazuzu's form had undergone strange changes over the long years. His ability to enslave birds had replaced the madness-inducing transformative powers of the Obyrith he originally possessed. He had also acquired traits unique to the Tanar'ri, including the ability to summon them.
Perhaps Pazuzu was the only demon lord in the Abyss with no true enemies. The other demon lords also seemed to have tacitly acknowledged his dominion over the skies above their territories—perhaps only because they did not value those regions.
He was the master of all evil creatures with natural flight, so the skies above the Plain of Infinite Portals had always been his domain. Not even the devils' invasion had changed that. Winged evil creatures constantly prowled the skies over the Plain of Infinite Portals. Sheltered by their wicked master, they had always been utterly lawless, and even the devils could do nothing
