The initial islands in the Chess Sea were all small, roughly the size of a plaza. But as time passed and they attached to one another, they would grow larger and larger.
The larger an island was, the stronger and more numerous its enemies were likely to be. After all, through repeated mergers and eliminations between islands, those without sufficient strength or too few people had already been killed off.
Of course, there were exceptions, such as Lu Ye and Hua Ci, two Tier Six cultivators who occupied a fairly large island.
As the two islands rapidly drew closer, Lu Ye noticed something unusual on the other side.

The fighting over there was in full swing, and they clearly had not noticed the two islands drawing near. Perhaps that could be used to their advantage.
After a brief moment of thought, Lu Ye said to Hua Ci, "I'll go take a look. Stay here."
"Be careful."
Lu Ye activated his Spiritual Power, and a pair of wings flowing with fire Spiritual Power immediately unfurled from his back. He turned into a streak of light and shot toward the island ahead.
The moment he flew off the island and over the sea, Lu Ye felt the Spiritual Power within him pouring out like floodwaters through an opened sluice gate. The expenditure was barely any less than maintaining a Defense Spirit Pattern as tall as himself.
