Background
Tang San cultivated secretly from early childhood, drawing on memories and techniques from a previous life. Tang Hao later revealed that he had observed this cultivation and considered it proof that Tang San was not his original son. Tang San maintained that he had not possessed anyone, but had simply awakened in this world as an infant with his former life's memories intact 26 32.
Before his identity became public, Tang San was recognized as a rare Twin Martial Souls user and became Yu Xiaogang's disciple at Shrek Academy. Yu Xiaogang regarded his talent as the ideal means to test and validate his Martial Soul theories 8.
The disappearance of the continent's soul beasts undermined Tang San's plans for future soul rings, particularly for his second Martial Soul. The crisis also made his cultivation talent less valuable to Tang Hao, who subsequently rejected him and destroyed his Martial Souls 20 26.
Personality
Tang San is fiercely protective of the people he considers family. After Xiao Wu is exposed as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, he initially recoils in shock but immediately accepts her as his sister and defies Sword Douluo to protect her 21. Her abduction leaves him emotionally devastated and willing to confront his own companions if they prevent him from rescuing her 25.
He is pragmatic when confronting the collapse of the conventional soul-master system. After months of fruitless searching for spirit beasts, he argues that weak soul rings would hinder his companions more than help them and proposes abandoning Martial Souls in favor of Tang Sect cultivation 78.
Tang San is also deeply loyal to the Tang Sect's core inheritance. Even while restrained by Lin Yue and facing death, he refuses to disclose the sect's deeper secret arts beyond the Mysterious Heaven Skill already exposed by Shao Xin 88 89.
