On Arena No. 3, Ling Yun's next opponent had a face like a scorched pancake and a body stiff as a board. Having witnessed the fates of Osler and Li Hao, he had no desire to end up severely injured.
"How shameful! You're shrinking back before the fight has even begun."
"Summon the spirit of burning the jade and stone together! Even if the enemy is strong, you must fight with your own flair; that is what a Spirit Master is."
"Besides, I am here! At the critical moment, I will intervene."
"Head up, chest out, stomach in—good, just like that!"
The burly teacher's thick beard twitched with every movement of his mouth, each bristle seemingly trying to goad the male student.
"You have one minute to release your Martial Soul."
The student quickly released his Martial Soul. His pants bulged tightly as his shirt exploded, revealing exaggerated muscles. His body expanded, and his height shot up to around two meters. A pair of bull horns sprouted from his forehead, and two yellow spirit rings circled his waist.
One minute later, the burly teacher issued the command for the spirit duel to begin.
Upon meeting Ling Yun's gaze, the student's momentum withered instantly! His legs began to tremble.
If Ling Yun had been at the end of his rope, he would have happily charged forward, but after two powerful opponents, Ling Yun's clothes were only slightly dusted. How was he supposed to handle this?
"Spineless."
"Teacher, it's easy for you to talk standing there. He's so vicious; even Osler and Li Hao were no match for him."
The student turned his target toward the burly teacher.
"You said you'd intervene at the critical moment during the last two duels, but you were slow every single time. I don't trust you!"
The burly teacher felt so awkward he could have dug a hole with his toes, his eyes widening. "The first two times were just accidents! I've seen it clearly now; this time, there will definitely be no accidents."
"This time, I will keep my Martial Soul released the entire time. You can rest assured!"
As he spoke, the burly teacher underwent Martial Soul Possession. His muscles became even more exaggerated, flame-like patterns covered his face, his height surged to two and a half meters, his eyes radiated an earthy yellow glow, and fiery red fur sprouted from his hands.
His palms transformed into bear paws; his Martial Soul was the Flame Violent Bear.
Yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black—the five spirit rings symbolized his status as a Spirit King. The powerful pressure and his massive physique left no doubt about his reliability.
"Liu Yan, you coward! Go on, hit him!"
"Exactly! Maybe he doesn't have much spirit power left at all."
"Liu Yan, don't embarrass our Class Three. Even if his spirit power isn't depleted, it must be drained."
"Go! Don't be afraid!"
"Liu Yan, don't you want to be with me? As long as you fight with some style, I'll agree to be your girlfriend."
Listening to the one-sided cheers from below the stage, Ling Yun twitched his lips. Somehow, he had accidentally become the big villain, and everyone wanted to take him down.
"Liu Yan, don't make me look down on you! Go, knock him down!"
"..."
Many spectators cheered Liu Yan on, among whom the girlfriend's voice was the loudest.
Liu Yan felt his blood boiling, his body surging with power. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, his eyes filled with the resolve of a man burning his bridges.
"Ling Yun, take this! Witness my Bull Charge!"
Liu Yan's first spirit ring lit up, and he barreled toward Ling Yun like a mountain of flesh, moving with incredible speed.
Ling Yun did not hold back. Since they insisted on treating him like the Great Demon King, he might as well do something that lived up to the title.
"Since we're both bulls, I can't play favorites. Let me let you taste the flavor of the Soul-Locking Light!"
On the Yin-Yang Mirror Martial Soul, the red portion flared with brilliant light, and invisible Soul Chains emerged.
In the distance, the burly teacher felt as if his soul were bearing the weight of a mountain, and the nearby spectators felt a similar sensation.
Though they didn't know what Ling Yun had done, the sheer intensity of it was clearly no small feat.
The burly teacher suddenly felt he should intervene to stop it, so he did just that.
A barrier of spirit power enveloped Liu Yan.
But Soul Chains could not be blocked by mere spirit power; one needed spiritual energy, preferably a spiritual attack, to snap the chains.
The Soul Chains passed through the spirit power barrier and bound Liu Yan's soul. His body collapsed to the ground due to momentum, lying motionless.
It was just like someone falling asleep; without consciousness to take over, the body went completely limp.
A moment later, his body curled up, shivering on the arena floor as if trapped in a nightmare.
"What did you do to him?"
The burly teacher questioned him. He had clearly been fast enough, so why hadn't he blocked Ling Yun's attack? Why?
"Nothing much, just a little illusion cast upon the soul."
"He will wake up in less than ten breaths."
"Teacher, if you could project your spiritual energy to form a spiritual barrier, you might have been able to block my attack just now."
The burly teacher's face turned from red to white. Ling Yun was simply sent by the heavens to torment him.
Below the stage, the students watching the match heard Ling Yun's explanation and saw the change in the burly teacher's expression, unable to hold back their laughter. Some struggled so hard to contain it that they looked like they were in pain.
Many people whispered among themselves, but however quiet these voices were, to a Soul King like him, they were heard crystal clear.
He wished he could find a crack in the ground to crawl into; it was simply too humiliating.
Ten or so breaths later, Liu Yan's consciousness returned to his body, and the superficial wounds he had sustained from falling to the ground were casually healed by Teacher Yang.
The look Liu Yan gave Ling Yun was filled with terror; it was simply too horrifying. He had clearly been in the middle of a charge, yet in the blink of an eye, he had been in the Soul Beast Forest, being eaten like a snack by a ten-thousand-year Earth Violent Bear.
That sense of dread from being reduced to food lingered in his mind, and the one who had caused it all was the seemingly harmless-looking Ling Yun standing opposite him.
Not long after, another student stepped onto the arena.
This student's martial soul was a Blazing Bird. The moment the command for the match to begin rang out, he instantly unleashed his soul skill, and the feathers of the Blazing Bird descended like a dense rain of arrows, possessing no small amount of power.
His first soul ring lit up five times, and the feathers covered half the arena.
Immediately following this, his second soul ring ignited, his body transformed into a red blur, and with a whoosh, he ducked behind the burly teacher and shouted his surrender.
Facing this overwhelming deluge of flaming feathers, Ling Yun found it truly difficult to dodge; with this kind of area-of-effect attack, there was simply no place to land.
The Yin-Yang Mirror martial soul grew larger before him, emitting a brilliant white light, and light needles rained out to meet the feathers.
Any feathers that could have struck him were completely blocked.
The light needles also shot toward the position where he stood. The burly teacher raised a soul power barrier, but feeling it wasn't secure enough, his first soul ring flickered, "Watch my Flame Tyrant Body!"
The light needles landed on his Flame Tyrant Body, triggering explosions; his clothes were shredded, and the pain was not diminished in the slightest.
"Good thing I had the foresight to release my soul skill! You brat really are a monster; this attack power is absolutely no weaker than a Soul Elder's."
With this student setting the example, the students who came up afterward followed suit, releasing their soul skills and then immediately surrendering without any hesitation.
He was racing against time to recover his soul power during every interval between changing opponents and the activation of martial souls.
The soul skills were strange and varied, and some were difficult to dodge; in such situations, Ling Yun's soul power consumption was much higher.
With this level of consumption, the idle time in between was completely insufficient for him to recover to a full state.
These students were treating him like a boss to be farmed, and they were farming him with great delight.
Many more continued to sign up; they were determined to defeat Ling Yun today.
