Background

Yu Xiaogang is a direct descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and the son of its sect master, Yu Yuanzhen. His martial soul mutated into Luo Sanpao, leaving him with only half a level of Innate Soul Power and preventing him from advancing beyond level 29. Although he invokes his lineage as proof of his worth, Qian Yu states that the clan regards him as a disgrace and that he was driven from it. 7 8 42

He became romantically involved with Bibi Dong, the Saintess of Martial Soul Hall. When the pair attempted to elope, Yu Xiaogang was captured and imprisoned by Martial Soul Hall while Qian Xunji coerced Bibi Dong into marrying Qian Yu. 1 2 3

Qian Yu repeatedly confronted Yu Xiaogang in the water dungeon, denouncing his theories and background before revealing Bibi Dong's acceptance of the marriage. Rather than killing him, Qian Yu had his legs broken and expelled from Martial Soul City, intending for Bibi Dong to witness his life outside the Hall's protection. 7 8 9

Shadow Guards recorded Yu Xiaogang's subsequent destitution. During the recording, he fought a stray dog for food, pawned Bibi Dong's jade token, blamed her for his condition, and courted a widow named Sister Qin for support. Qian Yu publicly displayed this footage at his wedding to Bibi Dong, destroying Bibi Dong's faith in Yu Xiaogang and humiliating the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 11 13 14

After a healing-type soul master partially restored his legs, Yu Xiaogang left the widow and reunited with Flender and Liu Erlong outside Suotuo City. He became determined to prove his theories through the Triune Fusion Skill and later agreed to establish an academy that would recruit exceptional students and validate his teachings. 41 42

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is intensely defensive of his identity as a theorist. When Qian Yu calls his work derivative, he responds with rage, insisting that his theories are invincible and invoking both Bibi Dong's affection and his father's status to defend himself. 8

His humiliation at Qian Yu's hands becomes an obsession with recognition. After learning that Qian Yu defeated Yu Yuanzhen and Tang Tian, Yu Xiaogang pushes his damaged body through repeated failed fusion attempts, determined to restore the perceived dignity of both his theories and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul. 41 42
