By granting them status and the right to manage others, a flicker of understanding passed through Evelyn's eyes. She finally understood Suleiman's intentions. "Your plan is..."
Suleiman picked up where she left off. "That's right!"
"Conveniently, they can find wives among these newly arrived families and marry them."
Evelyn looked at Suleiman, her heart skipping a beat. What a clever plan, accomplishing several things at once. How could this young man really be from a minor noble family? Even the children of some great noble houses weren't so thoughtful.
First, those Second Sons who had once had nothing now held positions, power, and honor. They would become Suleiman's most steadfast supporters.
Second, this solved their most pressing personal problem. With status and position, they would naturally have no trouble finding wives. Once they had families, their hearts could finally be at ease.
Finally, through marriage, the Second Sons of these old subjects would be tightly bound to the families of the new subjects who had arrived as refugees,
and blood ties and family would quickly unite them into an unbreakable whole.
Suleiman had no idea what Evelyn was thinking and continued speaking at length. Even if he had known, he wouldn't have thought much of it. This was basic practice for anyone raised in the East.
Evelyn considered her words before speaking. "The lord could arrange marriages for them directly. That is your right."
In Westeros, it was perfectly normal for a lord to arrange forced marriages for his unmarried adult male subjects.
But Suleiman shook his head. Seated in his chair, he rejected the suggestion outright:
"I have no intention of doing that."
"I'll just create opportunities for them. Whether they can seize them is up to them."
This unusual idea, so unlike the thinking of a Westerosi lord,
