After following the village chief to his home, Yuki Yuichi carefully looked over the nearly bare house. It was not very large, just a mud-brick dwelling.
Though small, it bore traces of everyday life.
Such traces were difficult to fake. Signs of habitation showed in the details; a house where people lived did not feel the same as one that stood empty.
Even when a place was kept tidy, if no one lived there, it would still seem somewhat desolate.
Noticing this, Yuki Yuichi nodded to himself. So far, what he had observed matched the mission intelligence.
He just did not know how things were on Kakashi Hatake and Uchiha Obito's end.
Even so, Yuki Yuichi did not let down his guard in the slightest. The history he had studied had taught him a phrase: a ship capsizing in a gutter.
He was a man who intended to live until the Boruto era. It would be far too wasteful to stumble over something so trivial.
Opening the door, the village chief welcomed Yuki Yuichi inside. He then pointed at a room and said, "You'll stay in that room tonight."
Yuki Yuichi followed the direction of his finger. The door to the room the village chief indicated was open, and after looking inside, he nodded.
"Then I'll be imposing on you."
"Not at all." The village chief smiled. "You paid."
"A thousand ryo is enough to cover one person's head tax for a month."
Hearing that, Yuki Yuichi fell silent. A thousand ryo was not much; it could only buy a little over ten bowls at Ichiraku Ramen.
But for the people living here, they might not even earn a thousand ryo in an entire month.
The joys and sorrows of people were never the same.
Thinking of this, Yuki Yuichi
