Having received the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry's formal reply, the Dutch government did not know whether to rejoice or worry.
The result was almost exactly what they had guessed. Bulgaria truly had no interest in the South Seas, and that was worth celebrating.
Unfortunately, precisely because it had no interest, the Bulgarian government could not even be bothered to send troops.
The Bulgarian government planned to form a mercenary force to help suppress the rebellion, but could one mercenary force alone really do the job?
One had to know that the rebels in Southeast Asia were anything but ordinary. After so many battles, they had already evolved.
As for their elite units, their combat effectiveness was hardly inferior to the regular armies of some countries!
Moreover, they had the support of the Japanese behind them. No matter how one looked at it, they would not be easy to deal with.
If the mercenaries failed to suppress the rebellion, the Bulgarians would very likely wash their hands of the matter. After all, their investment was small, and they could cut their losses at any time!
That was nothing like the influence of having the Bulgarian government directly deploy its troops!
If troops were sent directly, it would be different. Even for the sake of its own reputation, the Bulgarian government would have to crush the rebellion.
After all, behind the colonial rebellion in Southeast Asia lay a whole series of political factors.
The Dutch government had it relatively easy. The Kingdom of the Netherlands had declined long ago, so what if it lost face?
Besides, the British Empire was there to serve as a foil. The British army's record in this campaign was not even as good as theirs, was it?
