Kumogakure Prison.
Watching the ninjas suddenly spring into action, Samui asked, "What's going on?"
No one answered.
Everyone was busy with their work. Who had time to answer a traitor's question?
If not for their past friendship, someone would have spat right in her face by now.
"Lin Qing is here."
Killer B appeared in front of the cell and handed her another can of beer. He was usually so carefree, but today he wasn't smiling at all. His expression was grave.
"He's less than thirty miles from the village, carrying the White Snake Sage's head."
"Big brother has ordered a full war mobilization. The war... is about to begin."
With every sentence Killer B spoke, Samui's mind seemed to ring. By the end, her thoughts had gone completely blank.
"Then... we... what...?"
Logically, Lin Qing was alone, and he'd come to Kumogakure's home turf. There was no way they could lose.
But Killer B couldn't shake the deep unease in his heart. That was why he'd come to visit his senior disciple in prison. Even if they really died, at least he'd seen everyone he needed to see, and could leave in peace.
"Don't look so glum."
Killer B grinned. "A true man recognizes his opponent's resolve in battle. Who knows? Maybe we'll become friends with Lin Qing while we're fighting."
He laughed.
His laughter grew increasingly hollow, until he fell silent again.
Killer B slapped his thigh and sprang to his feet, speaking in a strange rhythm. "Yo! Face has been seen, words have been said, Killer B's gotta get a move on, gotta get that oil!"
"Well, what do you think of my inspiration?"
Samui's eyes reddened. "It was awful."
Killer B laughed loudly and left the prison. As he walked through Kumogakure, ninjas were running everywhere.
