Background / History

The Titans were established earlier than expected following the Laplace Incident. Though their stated mission was Federation stability and the suppression of anti-@@REF_ENTITY_11894883@@ forces, they quickly gained a reputation for indiscriminate searches, acting on rumors and accepting civilian casualties or wrongful arrests rather than allowing suspects to escape. The Federation Assembly compensated victims for property damage, but this did not restrain the unit’s conduct 134.

Within ten months of the Laplace Incident, the Titans expanded from a battalion into an independent regiment and continued growing beyond its authorized strength. After Zeon remnants on Earth became less active, the organization deliberately shifted its influence into space, using Konpei Island as a base and clashing with the rising AEUG during searches for alleged remnants 150.

By the time the Titans controlled Side 7, their name had become a source of fear among space residents. They maintained facilities in Green Noa, constructed warships there, and displayed open hostility toward Undertaker personnel and White Base veterans 203 212 217.

Sweet Spring Colony

The Titans’ occupation of Sweet Spring marked a major escalation. Under General Green Wyatt’s authorization, they requisitioned the colony for military purposes, forced civilians into Columbus-class transports at gunpoint, and removed more than 60,000 people from the colony 231 232.

The organization later requisitioned G3 Gas from Sweet Spring, causing a leak that endangered its remaining inhabitants. Its handling of the colony—including the apparent disappearance of alleged rebels—became central evidence in Eli Li’s public condemnation of the Titans before the Federation Assembly 233 265.

Seizure of Jaburo and Open War

The Titans launched an airborne operation against Jaburo, targeting the Revil Faction and attempting to seize the Federation’s military headquarters. Their descent force was heavily damaged by Eli Li and Amuro Ray, who destroyed roughly 20% of the airborne Mobile Suits during the interception 242 244.

After taking Jaburo, the Titans tightened orbital control, pursued Undertaker forces, and backed a proposal to place all of Earth’s defense under their command. Eli and General Jamitov challenged the proposal at Dakar, publicly connecting the Titans’ ambitions to their assault on Jaburo and their actions at Sweet Spring 258 261 265.

Though Eli’s speech did not immediately stop the authority bill, it weakened confidence in the Titans among Assembly members who had witnessed their military conduct firsthand 267.

Earth Sphere War

During the ensuing war, the Titans occupied Sides 2 and 6 by force while Undertaker, AEUG, and the Republic of Zeon controlled Sides 1, 3, 4, and 5. The Titans relocated the former A Baoa Qu fortress to L4 as the Gate of Sedan, turning it into their principal front-line fortress against the three-party alliance 286.

The organization armed Sweet Spring as a colony laser cannon and prepared to force a decisive engagement. The weapon was ultimately confronted by White Base, Albion, and other Federation-aligned ships after they broke out of Titans-controlled territory 298.

The Titans also attacked Axis with nuclear warheads, intending to destroy its armed forces quickly enough to govern the asteroid through fear. They later deployed a reduced Solar System weapon against Axis despite the strategic weapon’s banned status 310 311.

Fall of the Titans’ Legal Authority

After the fall of the TR-6 Inle during the Washington battle, Titans forces withdrew from the city. The new provisional government under Gopp revoked the Titans’ extraordinary powers, including their right to defend Earth, and announced the decision throughout the Earth Sphere 336.

Bask’s Titans faction rejected the announcement as a rebel fabrication and continued to fight from Jaburo and the Gate of Sedan. During the Jaburo battle, the Titans planted a high-yield nuclear bomb beneath the base in an attempt to annihilate the Federation’s main force 336 337.

Organization and Doctrine

• The Federation Assembly granted the Titans unusually broad authority, effectively allowing the organization to act as a private military arm through which Earth-based elites could extend control into space 217.
• Its political outlook centered on preserving Earth’s privileged position and maintaining the existing relationship in which the colonies sustained Earth’s population and lifestyle 217 267.
• The Titans recruited established elites and personnel considered to have strong future potential; their officers studied the combat data of prominent enemy aces such as Eli Li 259.
• Military discipline was not strongly emphasized under Bask’s leadership. Even Titans test pilots were noted for their poor conduct until disciplined by external superiors 157.
• Individual Titans personnel did not always share the leadership’s brutality. During the Washington fighting, Titans soldiers temporarily cooperated with Karaba troops to rescue a trapped mother and child 329.

• Standard Mobile Suits

  • Early Titans units predominantly used Anaheim-produced GM Kais repainted in the organization’s dark color scheme 134.
  • Later deployments included GM IIs, GM Quels, Barzams, Xeku Zwei units, and the upgraded Psycho Aion 310 327 337.

• Transformable units

  • The Titans developed and fielded the limited-production Asshimar, a transformable Mobile Armor designed in response to opponents such as Eli’s Gaplant 259.
