Personality

Behind that façade, Moody is ambitious, calculating, and devious. He sought to bind Xu De and Draco to a leadership wager because he recognized the value of securing powerful allies, and he routinely gathers intelligence before acting. 34 39

He is also competitive and prone to impatience. During the lunar assessment, Xu De exploited Moody's tendency to trust his own eyes and instincts over environmental data, luring him into a trap. 42

History

Ginn-Project Assessment

Moody enters the Ginn-project assessment as a second lieutenant from an elite unit. Rather than allowing other candidates to claim Xu De as an apparently easy partner, he immediately pairs with him and probes Xu De's unknown background and combat record. 32

Recognizing Xu De and Draco as the strongest remaining candidates, Moody proposes that the three cooperate. The trio becomes the only group able to effectively fight while piloting Ginns in the simulator, establishing the foundation of their long-term partnership. 35 38

Before the final free-for-all, Moody proposes a wager: whoever wins will lead the group. He and Draco eventually attack Xu De together, but Xu De eliminates Moody by exploiting the lunar terrain and Moody's impatience. Moody accepts Xu De's superiority and supports him as captain. 39 42 43

Early Combat Service

After the assessment, Moody trains repeatedly with Xu De and Draco, though he is unable to defeat Xu De in their subsequent simulator matches. He continues challenging Xu De in a friendly rivalry while acknowledging that Xu De improves faster than either of his teammates. 47

The trio later enters live combat in Ginns. Moody provides support during their engagements, assists in the destruction of a Laurasia-class ship's defenses, and shares in the recognition and promotion that follow. 54 62 66

With Xu De's approval, Moody feigns betrayal and enters Blue Cosmos as an undercover operative. His apparent defection enables him to recruit lower-ranking personnel, rise through the organization, and enter Phantom Pain. 216 217 273

During the Mendel operation, Moody reveals his true allegiance. He has already neutralized the remote safeguards installed on his forces' machines and persuades three brainwashed biological CPU pilots to turn against Blue Cosmos. He then uses their attack and his control of captured aircraft to force Muruta Azrael and the Dominion into retreat. 287 288
